Best movie to watch for Memorial Day
In my opinion the best movie to watch for Memorial Day is, oddly enough, Memorial Day. It stars James Cromwell and his son who is a dead ringer for his dad.
It is basically and old man who is a WWII vet recounting some of his memories to his grandson. The screen writing, acting and directing are terrific.
WATCH THIS MOVIE!
Yer welcome.

Pretty sure I saw this movie years ago. I honestly don't remember much about it. Might be worth rewatching. Thanks.

If you can stand it watch Hacksaw Ridge. It's a new movie but Oh Lord does it ever capture what it was like fighting Japs in the island campaign. I had tears running down my face.

"Band of Brothers." I have the 12-hour DVD set. Authentic in almost every detail. The 101st Airborne Division wrote history during WWII, and this depicts their exploits very well.

Saving Private Ryan
I get tears in my eyes every time I watch the ending. All those crosses are men that died saving our country, saving us, saving me.

I stumbled across "Taking Chance" last night. Had never heard of it. It's worth a watch. IMO

Too many to list but ill try a few. Decision Before Dawn, Sands of Iwo Jima, The Longest Day, Midway, The Hunters, The Enemy Below, Breakthrough, Battleground, To Hell and Back, 12 O'Clock High, Back To Bataan, Guadalcanal Diary, to try to honor every branch in the military. For comedy relief, See Here Private Hargrove, Wilie and Joe, Back At the Front, No Time For Sergeants, Mister Roberts, and there is one with Robert Stack in it--not a comedy but has funny moments-especially involving cats--Fighter Squadron.

I kind of like Battleground, but have most of the good ones...
My daughter gave me the old VHS set of BOB when it was new, but had never watched it herself. So when she visited recently we ran it. I'm proud to say that she really "gets it".

I watched this last night.
Not a fun movie to watch but really well done.
Unfortunately, as long as we live in a world where people want to destroy this country young Americans will have to fight to defend it. I just saw on the news this morning that a young soldier from Atlanta was killed in Syria yesterday.
God bless all those who serve and God's speed to those who pay the ultimate price to defend this great nation.

Saving Private Ryan, hands down. Agree with bamabiker, that ending is one of the most moving in movie history. "Tell me I'm a good man."

"The Best Years of our Lives" its not an action flick but it is a Memorial pic.
Three World War II veterans return home to small-town America to discover that they and their families have been irreparably changed.
