Default Reading and comprehension skills

I have the following ad on a local forum. It has run a while, originally priced at $1,100.00 and included specific trade options for other firearms only. I have been offered lawn mowers, a quarter horse, house painting, grass fed beef, a photo copier, a running but needs brakes Chevy LUV truck, patio furniture, and Coca Cola memorabilia.

A few days ago I was contacted for other photos, which I provided. Moments ago he contacted me again demanding, not requesting, the serial numbers of both so he could run them and make sure they were not stolen before he made me an offer. He also refused to sing, recite, or eat anything. A BOS is out of the question.

I thanked him for is interest, told him the price was firm, and $1,000.00 would buy him the serial numbers. He is unhappy and going to report me to the forum moderators.

Snowflake?
He wants something so you are selling, so obviously you must be obligated to do whatever it takes to sell it to him....

Unfortunately buyers who only want to waste your time are a fact of life anymore. My experience here is that for the most part the buyers are square shooters and don't engage in this.

Your terms sound reasonable to me.

I've lost an octave or two but I can still sing.

PS: what's he want for the LUV?

You should have asked him for his full name, Social Security number, date of birth, and legal address so you could run his name and see if he was a qualified person to purchase a firearm. I'm sure that he would be more than willing to comply.

The fellow with the Chevy LUV truck wanted $1,500.00 for it, so I would of owed him money. It was a decent looking truck other than a dent on the passenger door where a horse kicked it. I don't need a truck though.

I totally loathe the BOS part, but can't exactly complain since it is clearly stated up-front. Being Sigs however, I never would have gotten that far.

I find it difficult to complain too much about non-cash offers. This big ole ballgame of ours has created that reality. Gotta know that the guy who offers you a fishing boat sans motor has probably had numerous success in the past with such offers.

A "Don't hate the player... hate the game" sort of thing. Not much different than going to a gun show, seeing $1,100 on the tag and haggling down to $1025 (and then running to the computer to share with the forum your fine gun show skills.)

I can recite the pledge and love bacon but I can promise you DO NOT want to hear me sing, even the National Anthem. However, back to your point, reading and comprehension skills are dying at a rapid rate. Best of luck, hardcase60

Sorry to disagree, but if I was a serious buyer and saw this.......

Billing Information: Proof of age and GA residency. Buyer must sing our National Anthem, recite the Pledge of Allegiance, and eat bacon.

I would assume I did not have a serious seller and move on.......
Just me I guess but that's ranks a 10 on the jerk scale of 1 to 10.

Your ad is non PC and maybe even illegal, as it discriminates against certain religions that do not allow consuming bacon or other pork. (No, I'm not one of those people.)

Reading, comprehension, and spelling skills are all in short supply on message boards, inc. this one. Have you seen the guys here who think the plural of "knife" is "knifes"?

Am I supposed to be insulted by this remark? If you shopped the ODT forum, you would know how next to impossible it is to get the majority of buyers and sellers there to show you proof of age and GA residency, much less a CWP. 85% of them wouldn't use a BOS to wipe their behind if they ran out of TP, there is that much opposition to the document.

I have had buyers refuse to exchange info but demand my info, as I was the seller and thus not to be trusted. Two of them are also on this forum. Both of them cited "retired LEO" as the reason. Not a good enough reason, I walked away from those trades.

There are several members here that use the same local forum, they may or may not have had similar experiences.

In no way shape or intent am I trying to insult you. I understand the age and residency request. it's the "Buyer must sing our National Anthem, recite the Pledge of Allegiance, and eat bacon." portion of your ad I deem the jerk part. it's uncalled for.

Thanks for the shout back..to each his own I guess.....

I've had the BOS conversation. My position is as firm as yours. Always enjoy pleading the case for my side -- but that doesn't appear to be the subject of this thread.

Experience has shown me that as the seller, you have the freedom and ability to make any/all terms and post any amount of cute bits you so choose, and for that ability -- God Bless America. And due to your chosen venue and your terms, I predict you'll get the same "enjoyment" from the "buyers" you attract and this will continue until you change something.

Fortunately, this area of this forum is an available outlet for your frustrations. And as a bonus, we get to laugh with (at) you.

Many of us do that as a joke. If you watch closely, you may also see the occasional reference to a single "knive".

It's a joke, not a reflection of intelligence.

Yep. Sure.

I make these "jokes" obviously intentionally just often enough so that people will think I'm smart and I'm joking on those many occasions when I'm stupid and I screw up .

Default I think lack of reading and comprehension are....

...only symptoms of the main problem which is the entitled attitude that the not-so-potential buyer has.

When I post a gun for sale, I block out part of the SN. If a buyer presses me for the complete number, I usually cease communication. It's true the gun(s) I'm selling may be stolen. It's also a fact that some antigunners pose as buyers to get serial numbers to report then as stolen. I haven't heard of this happening in a while, but I know it's been done. Usually, on an "out of state" purchase enough identification exchanges hands that any tracking that may be done, can be done. On "in state" purchases, I demand to see a drivers license. I make it clear of that demand. Since I'm aware of the law, I'm just doing my due diligence. Humor or not the rest is nonsense and just restricts the pool of potential buyers.

Keep in mind that ostracized and downtrodden patriots are the ones that need guns the most.

This sounds like a stretch.
So this antigunner is gonna make a police report with these stolen numbers?
Hey, could be, but sounds like a stretch to me.
And why do some here hate a BOS??

BOS is just as useful as an imaginary friend that keeps you company and offers advice. BOS provides nothing legally tangible... while at the same time, it provides a total stranger with your name, address, phone number, all of which can be filed under the heading of "there are guns here."

BOS, if not required by your State for a legal private sale is a bad idea that offers nothing good whatsoever.

Always been my position to share the idea that a BOS is a bad thing, but I understand that folks don't always agree. When they state clearly in the sale or at first contact, I appreciate that. There are some obnoxious folks who will try to spring it on you -at- the meet, and those folks should ROT.

Some object to any kind of record of their firearms purchases.

No, no joke. In most cases, they really know no better.
