If you buy guns for "other than shooting them"then you have too much money in your pocket.
The Grail Gun concept is mostly between the ears and is part of the reason for inflated prices.

I can absolutely assure you (and swear on my old man's grave) that I do NOT have too much money in my pocket.

Was at my LGS a few days ago. They are selling, but mostly plastic pistols. Very little shotgun / AR / bolt rifle business.

Im hoping that Stakeout will invite us out to his restaurant,
on the house!
I have enjoyed eating there when I paid, so going as a guest would be extra fun!

Well that didn't happen; so, now we have a over supply of inventory and manufacturers, wholesalers and dealers dumping that excess inventory. Semi-auto rifles and plastic hand gun sales have tanked.
A new Smith & Wesson M&P Shield can be had at about $250. Guess what that makes a used one worth; maybe $200. If you bring it into a dealer to sell or trade you'll be lucky to get $125 offer.
With the internet the collectable trade has also changed. You will find investment quality, super high condition firearms are still bring record prices. There is still plenty of demand in that market. Collectors are looking for the best quality and rarest guns. They have very little interest in those same firearms as the condition drops. That means those less than perfect guns aren't bringing what they did. That seems to have been a trend since about 2008. Old gray messed with Colt SAA that use to bring $3500 now will sit on the shelf at $2500.
So with all of that I expect when inventories get back to a normal level for new guns the price will return to normal. As for collectables, I'm not sure well will see shooter grade guns ever get back to where they were. Us old guys that are interested in the stuff are dropping like flies. Juts look at the age of the guys sitting behind the table and wandering the gun shows.
And that is my ramble for the day...forgive typos and context errors.

Bill, THE big store in our state is selling 9mm Shields for $199 after rebate. An indoor range owner locally told me the most expensive handgun he sold in May was $600. He stocks Les Baer, Wilson and other top line guns. NO SALES! All in all, I have to agree with your assessment.

I'd say so, yes. I'd consider getting a few more tattoos, too.

I just bought 620 Rounds of Federal XM193 for 80 dollars. Ammo prices are dropping or maybe the dealers are getting tired of holding on to them

Someone should tell "Pennsylvania's Largest Gun Shop", Grice in Clearfield that gun and ammo prices are coming down! Seriously, they keep raising their prices, especially on used firearms. My wife and I were there Saturday so she could look at Gun Toten' Mama's purses. Their price matched Midway on those, so I bought her a new one, but .22 ammo and used guns. WOW. Remington Thunderbolt $44.99 a brick. Federal 510 $49.99. Used Charter Arms Undercover .38's $339. Used S&W 9mm Shields-- wait for it- $298! New ones sell for less.

Just sold some pretty decent guns at auction; I was sort of disappointed with the prices realized (not to mention that I will get dinged another 15% by the auction house).
Truth is that their "investment value" is probably more a matter of wishful thinking than reality, at least in my case.
It makes me feel better to think of them in terms of "utility value"--did I get a lot of satisfaction out of owning and using them? If so, I did just fine. If not--well, they were taking up space and need new homes.
It's like Ecclesiastes: there's a time to gather and a time to scatter...

I'm done with it! I've purchased 4 small revolvers just this week, I've got to taper off, can't do cold turkey. Maybe cut back to one a month.

You're my kinda gal Suzie.
For the same money I'll take two old shooters with "character" over one safe queen any day.

22 ammo is still not everywhere in the midwest.
I may have all I'll ever need.
Not close to lgs' but one I stop at on the way to Kansas City has only had one customer in it during my 6 or 7 stops. That guy wanted a rough 303 Enfield appraised. He was not happy with the answer. I've bought some ammo there and a riot shotgun. Almost bought a 1965 Win 94 but the Feds system was down. I waited an hour, by that time my impulse urge left me. I had him put it on the shelf and left.his prices do not indicate cheaper.
