What is this box with the S&W logo embossed on it?
In my travels I never leave behind something sporting a S&W logo and especially in that distinctive blue. I bought this box today at a thrift store but I have no idea what it contained.
Ok folks, what is it?

Yes, I saw one of these boxes advertised for sale somewhere online a few months ago and it was described as an ammo carrier.

If not an ammo tote, it could have been a first aid kit.....

That's what S&W owners use to carry their Taurus to the range. Nobody will be the wiser!

I put four boxes of 12 gauge shotgun shells in the box and they fit and the lid closed and latched. Sort of a cumbersome box to carry four boxes of shells around. I guess that's why I haven't seen these boxes around before.

field box.....
,when we had gotten some of those years ago, we were told they were ammo, or field, "kit" boxes for putting your shooting gear in to go to the range...and yes would make a great lunch box........
also there were some flat ones, came from the Rock Creek,Oh plant where they made tear gas, and S&W had bought out Lake Erie Chemical (Tear/CS/CN) gas as well as they made launchers for mounting onto the various handguns for law enforcement use........anyway there were quite a few of these various plastic cases out there , left over...........

IIRC, it came with the ammo. Not a separate purchase. I still have one.

I had a friend who worked at W.R. Grace CO. in Cedar Rapids, Iowa who ran a machine that made these. These were sold with boxes of shotgun ammo around 1968- 1970.

Now that's intriguing, I'd love to find four boxes of that shotgun ammo to complete the set. So the shotgun shells were S&W? Thanks for all the great responses.
