We've all gotten mad at our phone company, right?
Retired Metro-Dade firefighter with 34 years of service, angered because the trucks were blocking his driveway. This happen Wednesday.
Sorta reminds me of the movie The Jerk. With Steve Martin- He hates these cans!

There was a bar owner in the small town I lived in 15 years ago who was so exasperated with his laptop he took it out of his office, laid it in the middle of the bar room floor and put 5 rounds through it.In his defense,he said there were only a few patrons and they weren't too upset by it.
You can't make this stuff up!

The flavor of utility workers hired down here has changed greatly. My neighbor had his house connection upgraded and FP&L parked a truck with a small trailer blocking my drive. Busy work, fill-in type job. Plenty of room to move forward, just a small palm tree would have been next to the passenger door.
I asked that they move, wife was due home any time, I got an incredulous look in return. I mentioned I work utilities and in no way, shape or form is it acceptable to block an egress unless completely unavoidable. Another look.
Only after recording truck #, I.D. and asking to see the work order did the islanders finally move.
Don't really know why I pursued as long as I did, their indifferent attitude and the principal of the thing I guess.

I had a Phone Co. (Ohio Bell) truck parked in a no parking zone in my mom's complex. He was blocking the only exit for the complex and had traffic backed up. When ask to move he replied that that he would only be a little bit. There was a tow-truck operator that lived in one of my 3 complexes, I had the truck hooked and gone in 5 minutes, as was I and everyone else. Never saw him again, didn't miss him either!
A repair contractor for an Insurance Co. was blocking the same location, I explained that he needed to move so traffic could get through. He ask if I got paid extra for being an jerk. I had the special duty cops that did our security "talk" to him, yup he failed their attitude test also. He got a trip downtown and his truck got hooked.
Both times, this is because they couldn't walk extra 20 feet!
No! I don't get paid extra to be a jerk, It was a free service I provided!

Sometimes people blow up for no reason. Had I seen a utility truck parked by my driveway I would have continued about my business without a care. If I needed to go somewhere I would have simply asked them to let me out.
Around 2010 there was a huge post on a different forum that ran 20+ pages all because the OP had a similar issue. This was in Northern Pa and at that time there was a lot of fracking going on up there. Many out of state companies and employees. It seems that one crew was lost and something had broken down on their equipment (I don't remember what). They pulled off the road and left that piece of equipment to go get parts (I'm guessing because they come back later). Well they happen to have pulled off on the OPs property. That guy went nuts. He ran out, used a tractor to pull his own broken machinery to block them in. Started threatening the workers (when they returned). Threatened to keep the equipment because it was on his property....etc...etc. all the while posting pictures and updates on the that forum. Now I've been up in those areas. Very rural and at night you can't see much of anything. Roads are not paved and neither are driveways. Often roads and driveways look alike. Houses are set far away and hard to see at night. If you're not from that area you wouldn't know if your on someones property. Here's a picture I took when I was up there at night
What ever happened to just asking what's going on and taking it from there? Is it really that big of a deal?

Well, I guess if that guy had someplace to go in a hurry, he is gonna get there really, really late now! (if at all!)
That truck will not be moving for some time!

Some years back the power company left a power pole across the back of my property blocking my entrance to parking. I called dispatch and told then I was going to cut just enough out to allow my truck through and I'd be careful not to make the opening too big. The pole was moved forthwith.

Yup, can't make this stuff up. Carl Hiassen, Tim Dorsey, Dave Barry, John D. MacDonald, Elmore Leonard (and a passel of others) all mined the literary insanity that is Florida. Reminds me of my neighbor that decided to do some impromptu woodworking Tuesday around 1:30am. Much table saw, sanding, hammering. I suspect he was more hammered than the wood. Towards 3:30, I confess I was onboard Team TableSaw. #acutabove

I saw this on the news, watched the video. Unlike some others, I see no humor in this. None. At all.
This isn't the movies and it isn't a TV show, though it'll probably be all over late night comedy and talk shows, if it hasn't been already.
That guy's nuts. He's a real live walking commercial for every anti-gun and anti-2A organization I can think of. Bloomberg's probably salivating, and the Brady Campaign is probably already filming its latest anti-gun commercial using clips from the video. If he goes off just because a truck's parked in front of his house, there's no telling what other trivial thing would set him off.
I haven't followed up on the story. I hope the guy's in jail, and I hope they keep him there for a good while.

I was a phone guy for 42 years. I was always the one sent to defuse situations.
The phone Co sent a new engineer to our area. He had the degree but no smarts. A local business man built a large multistory Motel outside the military base. He also delivered propane and had a lumber yard. He was a big boy with muscles.
He asked for temporary electric and phones for the construction crews
They promised him they would move the pole so he could put in a nice covered area in front. The electric company moved their no problem. He kept calling the phone Co and did not get called back
He opened the motel wit a person in front of the main entrance and a muddy drive.
The local supervisor and the engineer went to the motel and told this huge redness fella sure we will move it for so many thousand dollars and it will be drawn up after he pays. It will take about 8 weeks. The witness' said the owner screamed something gutters and went for them. It was a footage to their car
He pounder on it and told them explicitly what he was going to do to them.
I grew up in this town. The Area Manager called me at my office and asked that I go fix it
I met the almost recently dead and they followed me over.
They did not want to but went inside with me. I said hello to the owner and he started on them, I said I know they screwed up. The big boss authorized me to rectify.
Mr engineer sit at that desk and draw it up, Mr supervisor call the construction supervisor, have him and his crew head to the pole yard. The engineer will call them with what is needed. And they don't leave until the job is done and the old pole is out. Oh yea, he did not have service to his new phone system.
He said thanks. The 2 stooges started to leave, I said nope, you stay until he is a happy customer and no charges.
So about a month or so later I get a call from the area manager, Curly and Moe went to the local large junk yard to tell him he could not have the lines he needed and the county road grader had cut a qtr mile of buried cable that had been buried 6 inches instead of 36 inches. They told this owner it would be a month or 2 before they engineered his job and let it out for contract.
I went to HS with this guy, he was in the same grade but 2 years older. He ran away from home on the rails and went all over. Worked odd jobs. He was caught and sent home. He had some wild tales as a hobo.
He was not as large as the other fella, put he did carry a snub 38 in his pocket.
This was before cell phones. He chased them screaming to their car, he screwed th snubby in one of them nose and had an employee go to a payphone he wanted me there.
I had the local guys run wire along the fence and get him restored. I told the engineer he could stay there to draw it up or go to the area office and call me in the morning. Contractors arrived early and did it right. I still lived there but worked in another. Small town, word spread I got lots of late night or weekend calls. I still got calls after I went to the corporate office in KC.
I was a good phone guy. I worked for our customers.

m70 gets it.
Pardon the semi drift but I've long held the belief that every new hire in our Public Utilities Dept., from cleaning lady to Director should go on a ride along with the guys in Underground until they damn sure figure out exactly who it is they're working for.
It will never happen.
Too many Heads are deathly afraid of what they'll find.
