I never had a 1970 Camaro but I did have a convertible from 1967 when I was in high school. This thing is classy.

I had a Chevy 1970 Z-28 with the LT 1 350 engine with 4 spd and that car was awesome. It is one car I wish I could have again but at $35 grand minimum that is out of the question not going to happen unless I win the lotto which I don't even play.

Had a 1970, the only show room new car I've ever owned. It was SS/RS with a 350 c.i. small block, Hurst 4 spd shifter, A/C, best stereo, and one month later, it was stolen and totally stripped within the 24 hours it took to find it.. All that was left was the bare body shell. It was a wonderful car, but from what I've seen they were very, very rust-out prone, so I doubt it would have lasted in the rust belt city I was living in. They are very scarce nowadays, but I sure do like it when I see one. I think they were the best looking Camaro ever.

My first car was a Vega, ugg, then I bought a 1970 Camaro and finished high school with it. Then I bought a "69" Camaro, after that a "68 and then a "67" SS/RS body that I never got around to restoring. I kinda was a fan of the early ones.

I always have liked the "split bumper '70" Camaro. I learned recently that the motor was quite a bit hotter that year than in subsequent years. I noticed that the one picture does not have the tall wheels that some now prefer. This one's stance suits my tastes. Thanks for the post!

Grew up with motorcycles being my only transporation. From 75 ti 80. I bought a 73 Olds Cutlass had rocket 350. Didn't drive it much only on rain days . I have still bought more new bikes in life than cars lol.

i had a 1968 z-28 which i bought a year after high school and built up with several mods. that car was an f-16 on 4 wheels.
i bought a 427ci l-88 engine which i was going to mod, install, and turn pro on the drag racing circuit then uncle sam called and i was drafted.

i put the camaro in storage and when i came home on my first leave i sold the car for $1,800.00.
the following leave i sold the l-88 with a bunch of extras, several cams, a couple sets of headers, a tunnel ram manifold etc for $500.00 for everything.

how much would all of that be worth today?
all these years later i still regret selling that car and extra engine. :-(

Nice! I bought a new '70 Camaro RS, split bumper, 350 4 speed, Camaro gold with black interior, wish I still had it.

This '67 Camero is drop dead beautiful. I even park my Mustang next to it when I have a chance.

Bought a '68 Camaro in early '69 and drove it for a couple of years; 327, 4-speed, no air, no power steering or brakes, but good, dependable car. Just never really warmed up to it. Traded it for a '69 Impala SS 427, 4-speed, loaded. Warmed up to that one quickly, should have never gotten rid of it.

Funny, but not too long ago, all the big money was in the first generation Camaros, 1967-69. The second gen. cars were pretty common, and not in as much demand. That has changed, especially with early metal bumper cars. I have read that the 2nd gen, Camaro bodies were designed by the Italian sports car firm Pininfarena. A buddy had a 1975 Z-28 that he dropped a hot 383 stroker motor in. It was impressive.

I have owned / restored two, a 1968 and a 1969. Pictured is the '69 that started out as a green 6cyl, column shift 3 speed car. Ended up a red & black big block with a 2 speed power glide and a 12 bolt rear. Pretty, and scary fun at WOT.... Sold it a few years back for a more modern Vette.

I always wanted a 1970 split bumper. Partly because I was born in 1970 and partly because all you ever saw for years were the 67-69 models. Figured I'd be a little different with a 70 model.

I had a 69 SS Chevelle, 396.
It was a cherry car. Wish I still had it.

Had a 1967 Camaro convertible with a small block 327. Red with bubble bee stripes. Mag wheels and wide series 70 tires. Car looked great but couldn't get out of its own way.

The first car I ever bought was a plane-jane 197 Camaro (not an ss or a Z28) and it was the same color as the one in the first post - except for the bondo-ed and primered spots. I was a sophomore in high school and got to drive it ONE time.

It belonged to one of my best buddies. We were on a camping trip and partying down on the river bank. We were all drunker than 3 monkeys and another of my buddies fell in the river. I borrowed the car to give him a lift back to the cabin for dry clothes. On the way back to the party spot I was 4-wheel drifting down this gravel road when I hit a 90 turn at the bottom of a hill. Slid off the corner into a ditch and flipped it upside down against the opposite bank of the ditch.

Flattened the roof on my side from hood to trunk. The roof crunching down on top of me folded me so hard that it crushed the disc between my top lumbar and bottom thoracic vertebra. I still have back problems from that accident.

I paid off my buddy for what he had in it ($850) and sold the salvageable parts over the next several months to get about half the money back. That incident delayed my getting a car I could drive for about 6 months or so.

When I was a kid I passed up the chance to buy a '69 Z-28 cheap. It was a one owner beauty with the 302 (yup Chevy made a 302), a 4-speed manual and just about every available factory option, including the rare foldable rear seat. I still kick myself for letting that one go. It looked just like this but with a white vinyl top:

Your feeding my wants,,,,,, lol. I was looking at bigblock Chevy crate engine today. But I'd take it apart, change the cam, port the heads.

From what I remember, that Chevy 302 wound up pretty tight. A 327 with a 283 crank.... or a 283 bored .125 over.

Had a 69 Z-28. Got radar clocked at over 140, paid for it racing 2 different Boss 302 Mustangs. Both of 'em just couldn't quite make it...LOL Had the rock crusher tranny. Not the fastest car I ever owned but probably the most fun to drive. Red and black.

Yup, gettin' wound up tight is what those little V8's were all about.

My Wife had a 69 RS and I knew several guys with 1st Gen Camaro's from z-28"s to 396/375 HP big block cars. We look back on these old cars, through rose colored glasses. They didn't handle or brake very well, mileage was generally poor as well on the performance cars. And they REALLY were not THAT fast.

ACTUAL 1/4 mile times on many of the "really fast" cars of the era were in the 13's and 14's. It was the rare car that actually turned a 12 second quarter mile. With suspension work and slicks...Oh Yeah. Many were 12 sec cars, but stock...not very many.

Today a SIX cyl Gen 6 Camaro can turn a 13.5 sec 1/4 mile in pure street trim, all day long. And with the engine management software, yield mileage in the 28-30 mpg area on regular fuel. The v-8, LT1 450 hp model SS will run a 12.5 sec qtr mile. And the 650 hp ZL1 can run an 11.5 sec time!

Then again it's been FIFTY years since the 67 Camaro we should be seeing improvements.

My 69 Camaro 327/325 was a nice car. Quick and handled well at the time.
A current Toyota Camry v6 could out run it. My '15 Vette, probably not.

I had a brand new 1968 Z-28 with the 302 engine when in college. Great chick magnet and as my major in college was co-ed's it was the perfect car for the day.

I ultimately put a 427 from a vette in it then lost it to a tragic fire in my driveway.

Now in my senior years and because of my work (I'm a tree guy, still climbing at 70) I have a 1990 454SS pick-up truck:

In the early 80's, I picked up a 70 1/2 Camaro as my 'project'. It had sat in a field a couple years before i got it so was not in pristine condition. Was a std bumper car, w/ a 350 and I did some usual mods (carb, intake, cam, etc) and we did a little work to the AT.

So not nearly as nice as it could have been back then, but was a helluva lot of fun. That gen Camaro has always been my fave, i still kinda drool when I see a nice one at a show (or like in OP's post).

Pic here is a scan of an old image, on a day I decided to just lay down some rubber for fun on a back road. Boys will be boys lol

94 F150 Lightning 425k on it when sold. Still see it around as I know the person who bought it.


Upgraded to this version 03 now has 59k on it this is day I picked it up with 36k 2yrs ago.

Me Im a FORD person however I appreciate all cars
We all don't like or want the same things.
Thought a little variety would be nice.

Only chevy in current production that has an appeal is the Corvette.
Sorry but GM missed the mark with reborn Camaro from day one and has not gotten better. IMO.

That is A LOT of engine for a 2 speed PowerGlide. Depending on what gear ratio you had in that 12 bolt, I bet you didn't pass too many gas stations without having to stop!

My 454SS had a 410 posi-traction rear end that never got any better than 10mpg of high test gas with the Turbo 400 3 speed auto tranny.

A road trip to Myrtle Beach had me swap in a 342 gears so now I get 11mpg but the truck cruises better at highway speeds.
