Muscle Car Owners
Are there any muscle car owners here? I'm talking about 60's and 70's good ole American muscle cars straight from the factory.
I don't own any currently, but I have had my fair share in the past. I was even told that I had Chevy Orange running through my veins!
C'mon ladies and gentlemen, lets see pictures of your muscle cars with a brief description about them. Thank You!

Never owned one but the last auto shop owner I worked for did. I managed his two franchise auto repair shops. He ran his mussel car business 60,s 70 ,s big block mussel cars all makes and models. He would sell them off at the big mechams auction ever year. Ugg I hated that auction we would have to service all the cars before they where loaded and sent to auction . I rember many very long days .

My entry.
289 (271HP), 4 brl Holly, a/c
I bought it in 1989 as a retirement present for myself when I retired from the AF. At that time it was a small six cylinder with the C4 auto and it had air. I was the 3rd owner and it had 16,000 miles on it. The tranny slipped out of one of the four bolts and shredded itself and everything underneath the car. Had to get new small six and new C4. Also new brake lines, muffler, tailpipe. In 2014 we began the conversion project. It is pretty much a modern car now with power disc in front, sway bar, dual exhausts, new fuel lines and tank, new a/c, power steering, power door locks and windows, a new digital radio with blue tooth that fits in the original radio cut out, 440 watt amp, four new speakers and cruise control.
A blast to drive. I just went over 40,000 miles and am saving for a new paint job. It still has the original interior and paint.
Also new tires, new trunk rugs, new springs, large radiator with electric fan and a new digital dash gauges that fit the old gauge form.

I gave up my 63/ impala s/s with a 68/396/400hp, super t10 with the low first gear and 4:88's in the rear just before I got married. The misses never seen it. My older brother loved fast cars. He drove mine and bugged me till I sold it. He said I'd end up killing my self in it. Now I'm thinking about building one more car, a Monte Carlo s/s with a 750/1,000hp bigblock. That's my dream car. My son thinks I'm old school nothing can touch these little rice burners today. He needs to feel the ground shake under his feet from a bbc.

My 1st brand new car was a 67 GTO with the new 400ci - 335 hp engine and a 4 speed. It cost an incredible $3600 and I wish I had it back!

Had a '69 GTO similar to the attached pic.No joke...Bought it in '72 from an old lady with 19k on it.
It was a total "sleeper". Baby blue/white vinyl top...365hp with the his and hers shifter.A little rough off the line but once the tires gripped there wasn't much locally that could take her.
Unfortunately I was 21 at the time with the maturity of a 2yr old.

C'mon, Disabled1, ya gotta post some pics!
I'm in for the "Used to own" category.
'67, 440 Magnum, all the options. Can't really see it in this pic, but it had the oh-so-fashionable vinyl roof too. Had a tall rear gear, it was under 3:1, most likely 2.76:1. Talk about freeway gears: I once had it up to an indicated 110 mph in second gear. (Empty highway, the only thing I might've harmed in a wipeout besides myself would've been a cow, if I managed to launch over the fence far enough.)
Just think, this big-a** two-door fastback Coronet was Mother's attempt at a Mustang-style Ponycar. Bought it from the original owner for $900, thought I did well selling it later for $1200. I don't even want to think about what it'd be worth now.
BTW I fully expect whitewalls, reverse steelies and Baby Moon hubcaps to make a comeback any day now. Damn I still love that stance!

67 Cheverly 396 SS.
74 Cuda with a built engine as Detroit had them detuned at the end.
63 Bonneville 421, it was not much off the line but had torque and an amazing top end.
Most of my, actually all of my pics of cars and hunting were destroyed by hurricane Ex while waiting for the judge to rule on the kids.
So the 396 was Forrest green. The Cuda was some psychedelic yellow from the factory. The Pancho was Turquoise.

I have NO pics. Just memories.
I grew up around racing, engine building, and muscle cars. My very first time that I remember going fast/racing, was when my dad took me to Laplace Dragstrip in Laplace, La. (It's no longer there) at age 5. He put my helmet on me, strapped me into my seatbelt, in his 55 Chevy Nomad, and all I remember were seeing all the people going by very fast! It ran an 11:80 @ 114 mph!
At that time he owned;
1955 Nomad
1957 Bel Air
1963 Catalina
1964 Catalina
1965 GTO
Over the years as I grew older he would eventually sell those, but replace them with others. Oh, BTW, he had bought an extra engine for his 63 Catalina, a 421 SD. He still owns it. It is still in the original factory crate!
At the age of 15, he still owned the 65 GTO. He also bought a few Rancheros, but they never were hot rodded. He traded 2 of them for a 1969 SS Chevelle. It was partially restored and he finished it. My cousin, whom owned a 1969 RoadRunner, told my dad where a 1970 SuperBee was. It had a 440 Magnum, 3 deuces, pistol grip shifter, and was dark green with a white stripe across the trunk. My dad paid $500 for it, and we towed it home. 18 months later, it was totally restored and was BAD TO DA BONE! When he would take me to CCD, all the kids would say,"Burn the tires Mr. Bob!" He never let them down!
At 16 I got my very own 1st ride. It was a 1969 Ford Ranger F100, swb, 390, 4 barrel, 4 speed (not a granny) Dana 60 posi rear end, black on black, factory a/c. My dad saw it in a barn on his way home from work one day and paid the farmer $800 for it. We did a full restoration (almost 2 years) and it was too BAD TO DA BONE! I kept it until I finished boot camp and AIT, then sold it and bought a 1977 Z/28. I went through several Chevy trucks, a 1968 Impala fast back, 327, Turbo 400, 12 bolt. I kept that up until 2008. I bought a 1984 GMC , swb, every option you can think of, and made it into a sleeper. It had a 454, Fairbanks Tiger 400, 12 bolt posi-4:11 gears, and ran like a RAPED APE! That was my last hot rod until my disability. In all, I probably helped/built about 25 SBC engines, and misc. other engines. That's why they say I have Chevy Orange running through my veins!
One of these days I will recover and get better. When that happens, I want a 65-73 Nova or a 69 Camaro.

Had a '71 340 Duster (black) I bought when I was 16 and ran it through my 1st year of college when I wrecked it. Had a buddy with a GTO Judge, and several others with similar stuff. Not too hard to find or expensive in the early '80s. Now? Sheesh!

A few at my shop. That is me with my new pointed toe Beatle shoes in about 1965. The Chevy has a Jegs 383 stroker motor with a 3000 converter and 340 pt with a 700 r transmission with MT sticky tires. A real sleeper. It is a fresh body off restore showroom new. The Mopar is a frame off also. 4 speed 440. AC and radial tires are about the only updates.

No pics regrettably. In high school I worked two summers to buy my first car. Didn't know it then but I got a steal on a 67 Camaro convertible. Sold it when I went into the military. A year later I bought a slightly beat up 69 Plymouth GTX with 440 six pack that was very fast. Wish I still had them.

Now yer talkin'! Though earlly Mustangs weren't exactly 'muscle cars' (or mussel cars as wingriderz said above I think the end product qualifies out the ying-yang.

The early Mustangs could be had with 271 HP solid lifter 289 CI. with a Holley carburetor--4 speed and 411 gears. What section do they fall in?

My "muscle" thing was satisfied with this '65 Vette hardtop roadster:
Here is a much better contemporary shot of an exact duplicate of the one I had and now much regret selling.

You know what I like about this thread? You don't see all Chevy products. There is a little bit of everything, a lot of MOPARS, which I like just as well.
I talked to my dad this morning about this post I started and my reply with some of his cars. He's 76 years old and currently owns a 1957 Plymouth Belvedere. He restored it in 2001. He went back with, what I call, Puke Green paint color.
Anyway, he reminded me of the 47 Ford 2 door coupe he once owned. I forgot all about that one. He restored it and a movie company was filming a late 40's movie in the N'awlins area. They bought it from him for $7500. That was 1977.

In 68 I bought the Barracuda, but not one of the "muscle" versions, just the 318ci, since it was the family car. But it made enough power to fill it with people and never bog down. What stands out in my memory was how quiet and smooth it idled and ran.
There were high performance versions of it available. Even a race version with a 426 hemi, thin glass, fiberglass fenders, and no rear seats.
No pics of my grocery-getter car, but this one is exactly like it, same style and color.

My older brother owned '63 & '64 Chevy impalas. One that sticks out in my mind is his 1964 impala s/s convertible 409 425hp with dual quads, four speed Black with red interior. I can't imagine what this orginal car is worth today. The last car he drag raced at raceway park, nj, is a 73 plymouth road runner 383 magnum engine four speed. He grew up in the 50's belonged to a local car club in Westwood, nj.
That brings back memories.....
Not all chevies, I built ford, Pontiac, olds, Chevy and mopar engines. The biggest sleeper was a later model 400 Pontiac engine with a ram air four cam in a 64 gto convertible. We won money on this sleeper. I build engines for my buddies. You want a cam installed that's one case of beer.

Had a 65 Mustang GT squareback with the 289 medium performance engine and a 4 speed Hurst/Muncie.
It could move and I could watch the gas gauge move while it did.

Got a 69 hemi roadrunner in 72 with 8k miles on it for $2200. It had dual quads 4speed 4:10 gear bench seat no power steering. Sold it in 76 with 23000 miles on it for $1800. Talk about guns you wish you hadn't sold?

You all have some amazing rides! Thanks for sharing.
I think I've shared this pic on here before. I currently have a 71 Chevelle Malibu that has a 454 swapped into it. Unfortunately it's take a back seat to other focuses in life. I've been considering putting it up for sale, in order to peruse other investments. I've been in the newer sport cars from about every era/ category you can imagine..There is nothing that come close to the experience of a great ride in old Detroit muscle.

Man,I miss the 60's and 70's...I was never a car guy like so many of you are but I knew what was coming down the street from a block away.No two cars looked the same.
We have high powered cars today but the term "muscle cars" will always be part of our generation.

This is my favorite so far!
Its not 60's or 70's "factory" but I'd say its era-inspired (with some modern parts thrown in).
Gen I small block with Clay Smith cam, MSD ignition, Dart heads and a new Edelbrock tunnel ram/500 carbs. Probably over-carbed.....
Muncie M22/Hurst shifter, 4.11 9", manual drum brakes, strong arm steering, homemade steel tilt front, Hooker fenderwell headers with 3" side dumps, Cal Trac bars, MT drag radials, chrome reverse steel wheels, etc.
Its loud, ornery and you can't eat a cheeseburger while steering with your knee. Out of respect for my neighbors I don't drive it before 8 am or after 10 pm.
On the to-do list: seat belts! and maybe disc brakes in the future.

There were high performance versions of it available. Even a race version with a 426 hemi, thin glass, fiberglass fenders, and no rear seats.
No pics of my grocery-getter car, but this one is exactly like it, same style and color.

I had a '69 with the 318 power steering and air. I later put a 360 in it. It was plenty fast and drove really well. I always liked the coupes better than the fastback. Very pretty little cars. I wish I had it still probably more than any of my other cars.
I just spotted a '69 fastback around the corner from my new place but the roof is rotted really bad. Another guy has an early Barracuda in his garage that looks like a serious build. Gonna introduce myself when he's out working on it. There's lots of hot rodders around here.

Blast from the past
When i was a young guy in 1982 I was able to buy this factory original numbers matching 1969 Camaro SS396 Pace Car replica, one of three thousand seventy five that were made. It was a big block 396, muncie four speed, power brakes, power steering and power convertible top . At the time I was unaware of just how few of this combination there were.
I was told back then that if this car had air conditioning (it didn't) it would be a gold mine.
I sold it to get a nicley modified 1968 Chevelle SS396, a bad move. I would love to be able to have my Pace Car back in any condition.
I do have now a limited edition 1997 30th anniversary 6 speed Z28 dressed up in the same white/orange stripe color combo. It's just not the same. I want my old '69 back.

Was Your 13.98 WITH the listed mod's? Just curious.
I had a 1970 NOVA in 1977 or so. 383 small block, 3 barrel Holley, Crane solid lifter cam, 2" Hooker headers, 4:88's, Mr Gasket bars, etc. It was a standard Nova. that was a real sleeper. (Other than the sound of the motor) No SS badges, really an "under the radar" car. It was a true low 12 sec street car.
Over the years had; a pair of 1969 SS396 Chevelle's. 69 Corvette coupe, 350/350, 1965 Corvette Coupe, 365/327. A couple of 1957 and 1955 Chevy's ALL of them 235 cube V-6's. LOL.
Currently driving a 2017 Camaro SS that's faster than all of them. Also near 30 MPG in eco mode.
I grew up in the Golden Age of musclecars and appreciated that fact too. I knew it was a unique time, that would eventually go away. We DID have some fun! It was a great time to be a teenager.

My 2017 SS will do a high 12's 1/4 mile all day long. My best with street rubber is a 12.4 secs. Amazing the technology we have today.
The ZL1 650 hp Camaro is good for mid 11's in pure stock trim!

There's no denying that cars were never as fast as they are now from the factory.
I've never raced mine, still too much to do before that happens. I'm sure when it happens it'll be a humbling experience!

It's funny you say that. Until this thread, I hadn't given that car a thought in years. I don't even remember why we got rid of it, but I think it had to do with not enough garage space.
We had it garaged for 30 years, never an accident and the paint still looked good. Don't remember any mechanical repairs besides maintenance stuff. Hubby refreshed it's interior once, carpet, seat covers, door panels, and the felt in the window tracks.
Something weird started in the 90's though. I couldn't drive anywhere in it without being gawked at and hounded to sell it. People would pull next to me while driving and approach me while parked, or leave notes under the windshield wiper.
Looking back at it's 30 years of good, drama-free service to our family, I'd have to agree with you, it really did stand out well.

This is one I let get away. My wife bought it new. If it had the right motor I would still have it. It is still in the area in storage and never wrecked and rust free.

I had a white Grand Sport like that with a 4 speed and buckets with black interior. I wrecked it in 1968 when a drunk pulled out in front of me. All I have left is the original title.

The first car I ever owned and my first new car.
1967 Mustang Convertible, 289, 4 barrel, 225 HP with a three speed. Traded it for a VW Type III Sqback so the wife would have good transportation while I was in Vietnam.
