Requesting copy of FFL be sent
I've purchased a revolver online. My local FFL, who would receive the gun, says that I can't ask him to send a copy of his FFL to the seller's FFL. He says that the seller's FFL must ask him to send it to them. He says it's the law.
I'm in Washington state. There's another FFL, of course, that will send it to the seller's FFL by my request right now without hesitation. In fact, my local FFL has done it for me repeatedly over the years, and within the last six months, just by my asking.
Anyone run into this?

I have never had an FFL refuse to send a copy of his FFL to another FFL at my request. Some FFLs happily give me copies of their FFLs so that I can deliver as I wish to other FFLs.

Your dealer is wrong. My dealer gave me a copy of his license so I'd quit pestering him.

He could always email it - one click and done.

Yeah, it's not the method that's the problem, but sending it by any method, if I, as the buyer, ask him to do it.

It appears that the recent change in WA law has caused your FFL to suffer a cranial/rectal inversion.

A person might confuse your request to "send it to me", thus getting the cold shoulder.

Sounds like your preferred FFL just changed his mind about this in the last six months? I know it just doesn't pay to argue with most people, but did he happen to mention the change in the law that made it illegal? Maybe the store got a new owner that doesn't comprehend what he reads.

Simply put, it sounds like it's time to switch to the other FFL who is willing to comply with your request.

My dealer has a copy of his ffl you can download on his website.
Makes it easy when I have to send one out.

I work in a pawn shop that receives lots of transfers. We gladly send a copy of our FFL via e-mail or fax to the shipping FFL.

No, he didn't mention a change in the law, just that it IS the law. Ownership is the same, but he isn't the person I used to deal with on transfers. That person is gone.

I am an 07 FFL in WA State and your FFL is wrong. It is perfectly legal for you to ask him to send a copy of his license to anyone (FFL or not) in order to facilitate the transfer of a firearm from another FFL or an individual.

Find another FFL.
If they don't want to help you, they must not want the money for the transfer fee, either.

FFLs don't kill. People do.
My FFL sent me a copy and I email directly to the seller. All of us are happy.

That is extremely cool. Wish the local dealers did this, would make buying from different shops all around the country much easier.

That's why most won't do it....they're still resisting the internet economy.

Everyone, thanks for your comments. I'll use a different local FFL who actually does know the law.

I keep a copy of my FFL guys license on my computer and cell phone. He got tired of me pestering him for copies. Either email or print and mail. Have it on my cell in case I ever run into a gun I want while out of state then I can easily give the dealer a copy.
I don't even pay him a fee anymore. He needed some fabrication and welding done and that was my "price" LOL
