Default Thread Closure?

Well, I've been hanging around a while on this forum. Have even made a couple of donations for the cause.
I've learned a lot and enjoyed some pretty good conversations.
Have seen threads go off track and some head in totally different directions than the obvious intent of the poster.
Saw one of the more interesting guys here banned for good and just reasons.
Seen threads closed for posts that were headed to dark and angry places.
And that's a good thing in my view.
But how in the world does a thread about your favorite wood get closed?
I read over it a couple of times and I don't have a clue.
Can someone enlighten me, please?

My guess is that the mods grew tired of deleting the crude, locker room responses.

There are specific reasons for closing a thread. Offensive language, political rants, wrong forum or topics that just cause heated discussions resulting in insults. Without reading the thread it is difficult to pinpoint the cause. I can assure you that the mods don't close a thread merely because the topic is mundane or innocent.

If you really need to get the answer, I suggest that you PM the mod that shut down the thread and ask for the reason so that you may learn the cause.

Think got taught pretty quickly after joining on following the rules. Rule #1 - Keep your words a little soft and sweet, you never know when you might have to eat them. (For at least a week)

A few days ago Ladder 13 posted a news item about a rodent falling from a ceiling at a Chipotle restaurant, and then a bunch of us chimed in about our less-than-satisfactory experiences at Chipotle. I don't know what happened later, but the next time I looked, the thread was not just closed, it had disappeared completely. There must have been some really unhappy customers among our members.

Even the thread title invited a crude response. I thought about reading the thread and adding my own brand of locker room comedy, but alas my ding-o-meter has seen enough activity for a while.

Default I'm as rotten minded as the next guy......

But I didn't even think to make locker room jokes about 'favorite wood'. Good gravy.

I appreciate the fact that this site doesn't tolerate any funny business. Instead of locking a good thread though, couldn't the omnipotent ones delete the offending post and warn the rest?

I'm guilty of the off color comments on occasion as I'm sure some are and my guess is the mods run out of time and patience policing the same thread to the point where it's better just to cut the loss.
Pretty sure these mods are doing this on their own dime so I'll cut them a lot of slack.
