Exclamation Understanding a Cat'svocabulary.

A cat seems to have a very limited vocabulary. It starts with: Aarow,Ffay, Fffft, Greow, Meow, Reow, and Unnnnn.

Aarow means== What's going on? What are you doing? etc.
Ffay means == im pissed get away from me-leave me alone.
Fffft means== Im starting to get angry-walk around me.
Greow means==Something to the tune of catching a kid with his hand in the cookie jar kinda thing. Aka--busted for doing something they werent supposed to be doing.
Meow means== Im hungry, feed me, pet me, hug me,I want lap time,I want to watch Tv etc.
Reow--another version of Greow--in other words--the cat is surprised at being caught in the act.
Unnnnnn means==The cat is complaining about something--could be almost anything.

Did I miss any cat vocabulary?

I once had to write the comments of a lion in a story.

It said, "AAAWrrough! Gruff, gruff, gruff. It meant that he was there and you'd better stay clear. Coming near dusk, near camp, that can be a sobering series of expressions.

I've had cats whose purring reminded me of a small engine running smoothly

Shasta purred almost constantly and loudly--almost as loud as her snores.. One couldnt help but laugh when she was heard doing either.

I have heard cats have around 100 different sounds (I believe dogs have around 10), I have also heard that cats will mimic the frequency of a newborn baby in order to get you to do things for them.

Default meep meep

My Edgar makes gremlin noises when he thinks out loud "mrrrrr". When he wants to know what's going on, he sounds like the Road Runner "meep meep". When he is hungry or wants some QT petting, he screeches like a baby Pterodactyl "raaaaaaaaach". It almost hurts your ears which is funny coming from a tiny 7 lb cat. He snores too. Newt on the other hand mostly has an incessant "meow meow" which means he wants food because he has an insatiable appetite 24/7. They both purr like motorboats. They are entertaining to watch and fill our hearts with so much love. ❤ ♥ ❤ ♥ ❤

My small Coon, Harley, about 18 pounds can snore as loud as a 200 pound man. He starts off low and he slowly builds to full volume after about 8 minuets. Timmy the 26 pound one you can hardly hear him snore. The other one does not snore at all as far as I can see. He sleeps the deepest of the three. All 3 cats are very serious purrers!

REEOWWRR... OMG! I can see the bottom of the food dish! I'm gonna starve!!

kack kack kack = there is a bird outside the window

Different purrs. A kind of snorty purr when giving loving, a typical contented purr when receiving loving, and a general purpose purr when all is well and just want to let the world know it

Everything that comes out of my cats mouth (excepting hairballs ) starts with "Hey Human, I demand.... ".

Strange, but most of the cat "Meow" sounds are used only with humans, not other cats or dogs. We have one who is a real talker, but we have no idea what she is trying to say. Of the many cats we have had over many years, she is the only real chatterbox I remember.

Ringo, I think you may have come up with the first: "Webster's Cat Dictionary".
And,...Did you miss any, ??; That would have to be that "multi-yeow, banshee scream", that happens under my bedroom window occasionally, followed about 75 days later with sightings of baby kittens peeking from under the smokehouse.

Great start, Carl!!! My Bella has a little chirp like lower case kind of meow that she gives when she jumps up on the bed and is looking to be petted. She woke me the other morning with a huge scram like noise and some serious hissing...she was in the back of the couch by the window that looks out onto the porch, where there is a big firewood storage box. I think that there was an intruder cat on that box, and Bella was warning the other cat to get out of here, and alerting me that there was an intruder. I have never heard her do this before or since. Lots of purrs when contented.

Good job starting this, I'll bet there are plenty of folks who can contribute!!

Best Regards, Les

Les-

Be careful! That intruder may not be another cat!

You can watch your cat and if a threat or something warranting its curiosity appears, you should go see what it's watching.

BTW, cheetahs have a chirping noise. Leopards have a very menacing sawing sound or a coughing roar. In heat, they have a sort of desperate sound that makes them seem short of breath.

I can't understand my wife, I'm not even trying to understand the Cat. The Cat only cares about more food. An empty food dish is terrible, life threatening -- even if she just got done eating. There must be food in the dish. She doesn't want more to eat, just put something in the food bowl ! !

When I come home ours greets me in the garage with a "hello" so I say it back to him. Maybe they mimic us? Sure sounds like it.

As long as he doesnt say either of: "Are you going to pull those pistols or whistle Dixie? (or) GET OFF MY LAWN" I think we're good.

That's the way Shasta was. The bowl I fed her in was a Cobalt blue bowl. The moment she saw any blue peeking through her food, I was forced into filling in that hole--even if only a few pieces werr required.

Shasta would run out my front door and we would meow at each other. Id let her go scratch (sharpen her claws) on the tree just a few feet away from the porch while I put my things away before coming back out to watch her act like a clown.

Shasta would run out my front door the second id unlock it and open it enough and we would meow at each other as we passed each other. Id let her go scratch (sharpen her claws) on the tree just a few feet away from the porch while I put my things away before coming back out to watch her act like a clown.

I had to save this one for last. Ive heard of cats barking like dogs and one was caught on video doing so. That is-until it noticed it was being watched and gave out a very innocent sounding meow.
