No deals at either the post exchange or commissary these days. Wal-Mart and Costco will beat them every time.

I agree about the Exchange. There prices are not impressive at all.

The Commisarry, though is a different matter (at least here). Frozen dinners are MUCH cheaper than even Wal-Mart. They have them coconut skrimps for half the price Wally wants for them, among many others. They also have a nice selection of produce and the cheapest foreign food around. It is a bit out of the way for me but well worth the trip. The Commissary is not owned by the Exchange, it's a different entity entirely.

I quit going to the base exchange because they don't hire native English speaking employees. The sales people don't know the merchandise and are very hard to understand, They are mostly Asian women who are learning English and I bet they think working at the exchange will help improve their language skills. Maybe the exchange doesn't pay enough to attract native English speaking people?

Was an Army brat and then spent 6 years in the Army. My mother rarely shopped at the PX and when I was in (72-78) I did notice that name brand stuff was a little cheaper but all they sold was name brands, no local or store brands.
