I think the one line from "Rocky II" sums up his career.

I did like Predator, though.

Shakespeare is bad, too! We were being dragged through Shakespeare stuff by way of Cliff Notes. Much grumbling in English class about reading old English stuff.

One day I asked, "Why can't we read [U]The Happy Hooker[U] by Xavier Hollander? That's a popular classic." Our English teacher had never heard of the book, three-quarters of the class was laughing.

At the end of the day I had to report to the Dean of Boys, not a happy conversation. I was much more subdued in English class.

To say the least, Stallone has had a very uneven career regarding
quality and critical reviews.

But his best, I think, are Rocky, Cop Land, First Blood.

Trouble with him is that so many people remember
only his stinkers. Nor do they remember his middling
to fairly good films in between.

BUT, and a big but, many of his films were money makers
and that's the name of the game.

After seeing some of his movies he was big, strong and dumb sounding I was really thinking that was his real persona but he's really articulate and bright.

I have to admit I never watched Rambo because I thought it was pretty ridiculous. Rocky is definitely my favorite.

His movies are average I guess ok. There are worse movies out there way far fetched than stallones movies.

Judge Dredd would be my nomination. It made Rocky IV look like Gone With the Wind.

The thing about Stallone is that even though he's bad, his movies tend to feature some real talent. Rutger Haure, Wesley Snipes, Sandra Bullock etc. They tend to carry the film

The Lords of Flatbush.
It had Stallone and a couple of other Guys that became famous.

I've never seen Demolition Man. It's on TCM next week so I set it up to record. Of course everyone gets the joke about the three clamshells.

I immediately thought of the arm wrestling movie, no idea what the name was.

Pretty forgettable, it was like recalling a bout of gastric upset.

Im not much a fan of his but yea--a few were actually good. Cliffhanger--with Ralph Waite, Michael Rooker, Demolition Man, First Blood and Judge Dredd.

But at least it had the Fonz in it.

If you went to a Stallone movie expecting it to be "good" then you're dumb. He makes entertainment. They're supposed to be stupid and ridiculous and not realistic.
