Problems With Amazon Via USPS?
I needed a couple of IKEA Jansjo LED lamps for macrophotography so I ordered them through Amazon Prime, since they're actually a better deal that way.
I was surprised to see free Sunday delivery was an option so I opted for that, since I'd be home today to receive them.
I got up this morning to check on delivery and discovered to my surprise that they'd be "delivered" YESTERDAY... "left in the mailbox". The latter is pretty interesting since they're long, gooseneck table lamps, packed in fairly large boxes, which themselves would have gone into a pretty big Amazon box. In my apartment mailbox? Not unless it works like Doctor Who's TARDIS. The last time I checked, the box wasn't bigger on the inside than the outside.
I then checked the USPS website which said that it'd be "redirected", either because the address was wrong (It wasn't.) or because of "directions" from the sender. I never made any such "directions", nor did Amazon according to their phone rep.
As "compensation" they wanted to give me an extra month of Prime, to which I replied by asking how an extra month of getting my stuff late (or not at all) would compensate me for getting my stuff late (or not at all).
As of now, the order is provisionally canceled and the charges in the process of being reversed, since I expressed a sincere disinterest in paying for something I didn't receive, or paying for something which gets stolen because there's no rental office or anyone trustworthy to receive it. If I had known that the USPS was going to LIE about delivery, I never would have had the items sent here in the first place.
I spent the rest of the afternoon reading the DOZENS (if not hundreds) of identical stories on Amazon's support forums. Apparently it's just SOP for USPS to lie about Sunday (and other deliveries), citing "business closed" when delivering to private dwellings, "Inaccessible" when delivering to wide open areas, etc.
I finally sent a well documented letter to Amazon customer relations, citing the specifics of my case and the LEGION of other victims on their own forums.
I suspect that this is going to end up in a class action suit against Amazon, since they're clearly taking money for services not rendered in the agreed upon fashion. The craven dishonesty of the USPS may not be their fault, but their continuing to due business with them to the detriment of their customers and their own business reputation is.

Never heard of USPS doing business on Sunday. Glad you are getting your money back.
I, too, am a Prime member and enjoy the service even though two day delivery is no longer an automatic; pretty much evenly split with three day delivery. I still don't know why they give a "two day" guarantee since when they don't make it nothing happens except the package gets here later than the second day.
All in all I stay with them cuz there is nothing better in the badlands of SW Iowa.

You sure it was USPS? Cuz I have had several amazon deliveries on Sunday (had one today matter of fact). But it was and usually is amazon's own delivery service.
That being said, usps is horrible here. I had a package that showed as delivered Tuesday. Left in mailbox. Yet it wasn't there. I all but accused some workmen next door of stealing our mail. Ended up being delivered in the mailbox the next day. Why on earth they stated it was delivered, yet hold it another day?

1,000% sure. Otherwise, how could it show up in the USPS tracking system by a specific tracking #?
And Amazon SAYS it was USPS.
I'm going to treat it as theft by USPS personnel until proved otherwise. If they lie routinely (which the evidence CLEARLY shows), there's no reason why they wouldn't steal too.

I think it would be more accurate to say, "They're SUPPOSED to deliver on Sundays." Whether they actually DO, is luck of the draw.
I've seen a number of references to the Sunday delivery people being either disgruntled managers or low wage short term employees.

Based on all of the posts on the Amazon support forums I've read today (I'm not even done yet), I'd advise you to buy a Powerball ticket...

Here's just one page's worth on the Amazon support forums. I'm barely halfway through:

The people who post on those forums are obviously the unhappy ones.
I have had Sunday delivery with Prime through USPS many times over the last few years, and it worked like a charm; a friendly mailman hops out of his jeep in front of my place and knocks, either handing me the box if I open fast enough or leaving it at the door if I'm too lazy to put down my coffee.
So obviously a screw-up happened in your case. That's life. Given all the hostility I seem to feel emanating from your post, getting your dander worked up by reading complaint forums all afternoon might not have been the best coping strategy. It's just a missing package. If you're down to accusing people of lying, and fantasizing about class action law suits, you need to seriously take a step back.

I get Amazon USPS Sunday deliveries frequently, and have never had any problems. I don't think that this sounds like Amazons screwup, but more like USPS, although I have been very happy with my service.
Amazon is the first customer in the history of USPS to get them to work on Sunday, and they only do Amazon deliveries on Sunday.
I think that your situation sounds like a mistake, but in millions of deliveries, I'm sure that there are going to be some mistakes. I would not let it drive me away from the most efficient purchasing system that I at least have ever experienced.
Best Regards, Les

Not only on Sundays, sometimes as it says by 8 p.m., but
one time it was Easter Sunday after placing the order on
Good Friday. Fact is, I didn't want the item that fast!

Why would they be happy about being lied to, not getting what they paid for, etc.?

A screwup? You act like I'm the first and last. There's something like TWENTYSEVEN PAGES of "screwups" on THAT forum ALONE. That's not an aberration. It's a PATTERN.

Lying to oneself isn't a very good "coping strategy". The USPS may be lying to me (and hundreds of other people), but why should I help them in their efforts?

I'm not "accusing" the USPS of lying, I'm SAYING they've apparently got a LONG history of lying, and lots of people have lots of proof, including on video.
I owe the USPS NOTHING. I certainly don't owe it to them to pretend that they haven't LIED to a lot of people about failures to deliver. It's one thing to be unable to do something. It's quite another to fail and LIE about WHY you failed, never mind blaming the customers you failed.

My biggest problem with Amazon has been their delivery. The post office has delivered a few packages but the Amazon delivery service delivers most of them. Their drivers can't read! They get the wrong house or apartment almost every time!!
Then they leave the package at the door without knocking whether you're home or not. And the delivery person indicates that the package was placed in a secure lock box!
I love Amazon but if they don't fix this problem I will cancel Prime.

I'm not blaming Amazon for USPSes ineptitude and dishonesty, and didn't in my email to them. I WILL blame them if USPS continues this pattern of behavior and they continue to do business with them.
If USPS can't be relied upon either to do what they promise, or to tell the truth about it, Amazon needs to cut them loose because it makes Amazon look bad and costs them money.

My bottom line is, "Don't promise something you know you can't deliver."
I've seen abundant evidence that USPS is unable or unwilling to deliver what Amazon promises. Amazon needs either to stop promising Sunday delivery or to find somebody who can actually do it, and not lie about why they failed.
Until that time, I'll NEVER request Sunday delivery again, and time permitting, I'm going to go through 2nd tier support at Amazon and make sure they NEVER send anything to me via USPS EVER again. You don't get good behavior by meekly rewarding bad behavior.

My problem is not only did I not get what I ordered (and paid for), I don't even know where it WAS delivered, since they saw fit to say they gave it to somebody else, but not to WHOM.
And too, I was hoping to use those lamps today. Now the entire day was shot waiting for them.
And I still need SOMETHING to do their job, and there's NOTHING available locally for a reasonable price, or I would have bought them already.

Sorry about your situation...certainly not what you paid for.
As much as I dislike Amazon handing off deliveries to USPS, I have had Sunday deliveries arrive as promised. Don't know if they were by USPS or not (the drop on the doorstep and disappear thing-no doorbell involved) but they did show up. (Sadly, it appears my luck does not extend to the lottery, but that's a First World problem.).
If you're convinced that USPS is the problem, a visit to your local postmaster may help. May not, but Amazon does millions of deliveries daily (1.6M/day, spake Google), so I would not expect much from their end beyond what they've offered. FWIW.

I had no idea they had Sunday delivery until this incident. I guarantee you I'll never try THAT again.
Unfortunately, I still need the items and as far as I can tell, there's no locally available replacement, even at an UNreasonable price. Oddly, with Prime, Amazon seemed like a better deal than IKEA. I may end up having to order them directly from IKEA and take a big hit on shipping. As far as I can tell, those are the ONLY alternatives, since I don't think anybody makes anything suitable for under $100 a lamp... assuming those $100 lamps are even suitable at all.
What I want to see is what sort of "The Loch Ness monster ate my homework" BS the USPS comes up with.

What I hope is that Amazon is keeping track of EVERY complaint and in EVERY instance issuing a charge-back to the USPS for their failure to meet the service level agreement.
USPS is committing rampant fraud against Amazon, if nobody else and shouldn't be allowed to get away with it.

Why would you make such a childish comment on an Internet forum to someone you don't even know, simply because they mention having had a better experience than you did?

Luck like that should never be allowed to go to waste.
I'd also suggest a trip to Las Vegas or Monaco.

If so, I'm happy for you. It didn't happen for me, and for a lot of others. No more Amazon via USPS for me. It's just not worth the aggravation and arrogant treatment.

I've had issues with the USPS Sunday Amazon service. Rather than deliver a box to my door that was too large for our street-side mail box that is just across the street the delivery person concocted a bogus excuse and didn't deliver the package. Real small parcels have been no problem. Someone was simply too lazy to walk 50'.

Our local Post Office does not deliver Amazon Prime on Sunday. Strange since I don't live in the middle of nowhere.
I have more problems with FedEx ground delivery than anthing else. Their drivers all hate their jobs and often can't read.

I don't care for the Sunday deliveries, but I not that bothered. I would prefer my regular carrier deliver my packages on her normal work days. I leave instructions for my larger than mail box packages to be left in the car. I have had no problems with them stolen out of the car, at least yet. If that occurs I will leave instructions for them to lock the door after delivery.
You can also have your packages delivered to a PO box, but that knocks out any Sunday delivery.

Here, carriers carry on Saturday....
Saturday is like any other day of the week for delivery, however, post offices close down around noontime.
Now they also keep someone there on Sunday to take out packages only.
They've taken on the Amazon packages without changing routes or respective salaries. My wife is carrying many more packages, which is getting to her physically. She's hoping to retire in a couple of years on account of that. People may say, "They should be happy they have a job", but all that hoopla about the USPS cutting deliveries and almost being bankrupt was a bunch of hooey to set the carriers up to get screwed.
I contribute to the dilemma by ordering 30# of bullets in flat rate boxes.
So far my service has been good and I have no complaints but I've never had anything delivered on Sunday.

They would also have to investigate every complaint, and this might come as a surprise to you, but people have been known to lie on internet comment pages. Not to mention, have you read USPS's agreement with Amazon? I haven't . . .

Sounds like you had a very fulfilling day.

But wait there is more!!

I've always had good luck with Amazon deliveries but, I have the advantage of living in a house so............if it's too big for the mail box, they just leave it on the porch.
I've even had an item arrive only 1 day after I ordered it. I ordered a rifle scope on a Saturday morning and found it sitting on my porch Sunday morning.

I've had good luck until now. I'll have to go back to only shipping to friends' offices.

My experience thus far with Amazon (Prime) and deliveries has been stellar. Sometimes even next day delivery. Honestly I don't understand how they so so well..... This includes USPS and FedEx carriers. I never requested Sunday delivery. I simply discount Sunday as a day off.

I selected Sunday delivery precisely because I'd be off and wouldn't have to have it shipped to a friend's office. Big mistake, and one which I'll never make again.
I just ordered the same thing again, but today they offered them in a two pack for a few bucks off. It's going to my friend's office this time.

This had gone on for the last couple of years until about 3 months ago.. here at least. It isn't Amazon's fault and is entirely in the hands of our wonderful USPS. I utilize Amazon Prime for everything and enjoy the, now, consistent Sunday delivery. Before USPS made changes in my area they were lying about delivery... whether it be "unable to deliver" or flat out stating that it was left at the mailbox when it wasn't. The package always magically showed up every Monday which meant USPS employees were simply dodging weekend work.
Either way Amazon ALWAYS made good of it on my end and investigated each time.. which resulted in USPS being at fault. Now their performance is spot on and hopefully stays that way. Their grocery service, however, is an entirely different disaster..

A year or two ago a buddy of mine had ordered a case of .22lr. Being retired, he was at home all day. Package never arrived. However, it was shown delivered. He called to inquire and USPS told him that he'd need to contact the seller so they could start a claim. Magically, it showed up the next day.
USPS seems to have letters, magazines and junk mail down to a near perfect science. But give em a package... particularly if it's handoff with "UPS Mail Innovations"... forgetaboutit...

Any of the above can and does happen in any world. Developing nations don't have a lock on theft and lying. Ya want proof of that, I'll introduce you to my PRIOR stockbroker. I'm still trying to recover from some of his "can't miss" deals.

I ordered a couple of replacements Monday. They're going to a friend's office... UPS. Arriving today.
No reply to my USPS complaint despite their one day promise. Tried to complain about that. Complain is broken...
Update: UPS delivered the replacements w/o issue. Still no info from USPS...

USPS problem - not Amazon - my delivery

Long ago on a Sunday morning received a package at my mailbox.
Problem: NOT mine. Clearly addressed for one street over. Phone NOT answered at post office. Somebody paid for Sunday delivery and did not get it.
I am NOT Prime and my ex will confirm this.

I use to live on a De Forest St in Monterey. The Court house that collected the ticket fined was on Del Monte St with the same number. Use to get their mail all the time. USPS never straighten it out.

They Got Me Again
Over the weekend I found a great deal on manual flashes, better than the garbage Yongnuo YN-560s for slightly more than the 1/3 the price (Amazon Basics). I also ordered a Neewer three piece wireless flash trigger kit for less the $16.
Having learned my lesson, I had them shipped to my friend's office. He was there for most of the day.
I got to his office around 4:45pm and the USPS site still showed them "out for delivery".
I called Amazon who called USPS. USPS said that although their site might indicate certain conditions, they were largely automatic and essentially meaningless. He indicated that they delivered until dark and the items might yet be delivered. I was given a case # in the event that they didn't show up by 09/13.
I sat around my friend's office until slightly before 7:00pm without anything being delivered or any notice being left.
I decided to leave and get something to eat, planning to return when my friend was ready to leave so that I could wait for the delivery.
I had almost reached the exit when I got an email alert "Delivery Attempted". The time? 6:06pm.
I immediately called Amazon back, who again called the USPS. The USPS rep admitted that there was literally no excuse either for lying about the delivery attempt or failing to leave a notice of delivery attempt.
Supposedly, they will try to deliver again tomorrow. Of course my friend won't be there until the afternoon, so they'll probably use that as an excuse.
By way of contrast, I had a Wemacro automated focus rail delivered to that same office today. It arrived on time... FROM SHANGHAI, PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA via UPS.
The Amazon reps readily admit that they're constantly bombarded with tales of USPS incompetence and dishonesty. And yet Amazon still does business with them. Hopefully that will soon change.
