Default The day Waylon met Rosalynn

The photo below was taken April 23, 1980 at a reception preceding a concert to benefit the Carter-Mondale campaign. It shows Waylon Jennings meeting Rosalynn Carter. The gal in the center of the picture is Waylon’s wife, Jessi Colter (her stage name). Jessi’s real name is Miriam Johnson. Before marrying Waylon, she was married to guitarist Duane Eddy.

To me, this is an odd photo. It looks like the only person happy to be in the room is Jessie. And, what’s with the guy on the far right?

Doesn't seem all that odd to me. It's just a moment in time. One frame from what was probably a series of shots. Rosalynn might just be turning away from meeting them, smiling and moving on to someone else...Jessie's smiling, Waylon's watching, and the guy on the right is just pushing up on the bill of his cap.

Jessie Colter, by the way, is an accomplished singer-songwriter in her own right. I'm guessing she contributed a good bit to Waylon's success later in his career. I had an album by her back in the seventies...guess it's gone now.

This photo is not odd, it is a candid shot.
It does not make Waylon look good though. It appears he needs a bath and a haircut.

I remember my mother always said that Waylon was always such a good looking handsome man. But he let himself go and looks pretty scabby.
