With all the people fleeing the Gulf Coast area, and LE tied up elsewhere, I'd think it would be good pickings for burglars and other low lifes.

All some people need is a natural disaster to let the looting begin. This guy learned a hard lesson.

Good case for using shotguns for Home Defense.

I know that a lot of bad guys see hurricanes as a golden opportunity to break into peoples homes and help themselves to what ever they want. Still I find it amazing that anyone would break into someones home in Texas.
Really? Can some people not see the foolishness of this?? I think that someone would have to be totally desperate to take the chance.
I am always prepared for unwanted company but in times like this if you plan on coming in HERE you better be swathed in kevlar and come in with guns blazing. And even then you might not make it out again.
I. B. READY!!!

I'm sure he will sue the homeowner and win. He should be allowed to seek shelter during a natural disaster.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Charlie, we set up roadblocks at the ends of our streets and if you didn't live on that street or weren't a first responder, you didn't go through. We also open carried for at least the first few days. I think the National Guard showed up to institute martial law and an 8:00 pm curfew on about day three. We were without power for almost three weeks.

At least that report didn't call the intruder the victim, like the Police Spokesperson did.
While I'm in earthquake rather than hurricane country, I always figured I'd be one of the crusty old f**ts who would stay hunkered down during mass evacuations. I don't have any immediate family to take care of, I'd rather stay under a tarp in the ruins of my own digs rather than in a shelter, and it's good to have at least one resident to look out for brigands. Of course, if the forces of the state decide to make an example out of you, you'd likely end up getting arrested and thrown in jail for the crime of staying on your own property. You pays you money and you takes you chances.

And having an I.D.10.T for a Police chief (like we currently have who announces that hes not sending his cops out unless life or death emergency) which tells all crooks its open season. A crook was shot here somewhere on the south side--unsure if it survived.

I'm reminded of the shop owners with Ak-47's during the LA riots. Some people refuse to be victims.
I had somebody try to steal my neighbors generator during a bad ice storm. I shined a laser pointer at his chest, from across the street and he left PDQ.

Gotta love that headline: Forgot they're in Texas.

That's all any police are obligated to do, ever. They're not even required to patrol in the best of times, it's perfectly non-suable for them to sit at the station and only respond to dire emergencies. Their obligation is to the community as a whole, not to individuals who may be under attack or need rescuing or whatever.

That's what I told my English pen pal when they were having some nasty riots a few years ago: Y'all need some Korean shopkeepers.
That Blue Lives Matter site has a lot of good articles you don't usually see in the mid-stream media. For example, the locals are shooting at and robbing the private parties who brought their boats in to rescue people. They even fake needing help to get the boats to come so they can rob them.
Cajun Navy Forced To Stand Down As They Come Under Gunfire, Looters Try To Take Boats - Blue Lives Matter
Sounds like the classic post-carry reform Florida situation: Predators know the natives are likely to be carrying, but the tourists/visitors are forbidden by law from being armed, barring a permit in their home state, with reciprocity. So the visitors are the preferred prey.
