Default Forum Posts -- Forum Clichés We Would Like to Retire!

Now everybody, be nice! No Names!

There are some standard responses to posts that we really need to retire. One that really gets me is:
"I just drooled all over my keyboard!"

This is usually in response to a particularly beautiful picture of whatever. I know people get tired of simply saying "Wow!" or "That's Beautiful!" so I can see wanting to say something different. But couldn't we select something a little more original, not to mention a little less disgusting?

One of my peeves is seeing one's revolver next to the bacon and eggs.If you have to protect your breakfast maybe the dog should be in another room.

"I picked up" instead of "bought".

"I pulled the trigger" instead of "I made a decision".

"Platform" instead of "gun".

Those are the worst IMHO.

"Minty" guns kind of get on my nerves. I don't know about other folks, but I don't make a habit of rubbing toothpaste on my guns.

That one is so bad I can now laugh at it! "Cherry" is also great!

How about any post that begins with "So" ?
That is a fairly recent affectation that people must have seen somewhere and think that is the proper way to begin a sentence and adopted it.

Saying that a gun "followed me home".

Calling grips or stocks "shoes".

Some good ones there, no doubt! I can't believe I forgot "boolets"!!! Where did that come from? All of a sudden everyone is from Mexico???

Here's another one that deserves mention: "sexy", in reference to a gun. Anyone who looks at a gun and it reminds them of sex is seriously ill.

Calling guns "she" is weird, too.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
People Eating Tasty Animals.

Both were mildly amusing the first 5000 times. After the 5001 it's time to move on.

Dream on. The clichés are as firmly imbedded in the gun culture as fossils are in Montana granite.

But since we're dreaming, here's one: Furniture. As in, "I got some new furniture for my AR!" Furniture? Really? "My Mossberg came with real wood furniture!"

Get away from me with that. Just go.

"Sweet"

Trigger breaks like glass

Loaded a 147 gr "pill" atop a 6gr of wambam powder

"She" runs good on Acme ammo.

The list is endless.

Default I'd like to defend.....

....trigger "Breaks like glass". it it very descriptive. I used to mess with those glass rods in chemistry class. If you bent one they had two states.....broken or not broken. No in between like "Breaks like a popsicle stick".

I get awfully tired of the bear gun topics when some wit thinks he's being original in saying that all he needs is a .25 to shoot a companion in the knee so the bear will catch that man instead of the poster.

SIG P-220 covered most of my other gripes. The one I was going to post about was the Ruger = a tank theory. Rugers are strong, but CAN be abused to the point of damage.

BTW, I think it was Skeeter Skelton who came up with "boolits" when he satirized some of his hokier readers.

And I think many here realize that I detest spelling "knives" as "knifes." Actually , I'm not too keen on anything else that makes this board look like a den of illiterate rednecks, as the gun haters like to portray us.

Boolits is from reloading forums. Used to differentiate between store bought bullets and ones you cast yourself.

Not saying I like it, just saying where it came from.

Cliches don't bother me much.

I'm just glad the zombies have left. 5 years ago every other thread was about the zombie apocalypse.

None of the above bother me!

(I like how Walter Roper called his stocks handles, and how RL Wilson called 'em grips.)

Call 'em whatcha want, fellas.

(But puh-leeze, don't "reach out" to me about it, 'cause I'll likely smack your hand away from me. Ya got a question, just ask me, fer pete's sake.)

Sooo...I pulled the trigger on this one I picked up and it followed me home. Those aren't the original shoes on it, though. It's not exactly minty, but the action is cherry and the trigger breaks like glass.

I've only seen it (boolits) used preliminarily on one forum. Then others became infected. Regardless, it's a non-word and I'm pretty tired of seeing it. My most hated blurbs are:

"More accurate than I am" this statement which quantitively means zero is usually uttered the most by folks who cannot hit the ground with a shotgun.

Even the terms "accurate" and "very accurate" mentioned here are seldom defined by group size at distance so they essentially mean nothing. Accurate means different things to different people. I always find it amusing when somebody checks mechanical accuracy by shooting groups off of a rest at 7 or 10 yards??

Enough..............

Bruce

Word.

When some people highly agree with something, they write "word". Not so much here, but I see it at other sites.

"Run" when referring to lubrication used, or ammo or other accessories on (or in) a gun, as if the gun were a car or something. Such as, "I'm running some new Pachys on my Model 10". Oh yeah, "Pachys" used for "Pachmayr".

And guys who write like they are Jed Clampett or Yosemite Sam, when I know damned well that they can write in a professional manner for their job.

Oh, yes, "steady diet of ____" ammo has gotten plenty stale.

OK, one more; "princely sum" for the purchase price of a gun back in the old days.

Ooooops, "tube" instead of barrel.

Edit to add: Race gun. That's just wa-a-a-ay too ******* cute. Really??? You race the gun? (vomit icon goes here)

Thanks for the reminder, I need to check on mine for the week . Yeh, it is so important to me I only think of it when I see a thread about it.

Yep, I forgot about boolits too. That's one that torques me up too. I buy bullets to reload with at my LGS or online. I buy a box of cartridges if I want some factory ammo. Boolits sounds like something a ghost eliminated on the floor to me.
