I had hernia surgery friday the 15th
Well it got so bad and big I had to have it done. It was a one day go in the morning and come home that afternoon. It does not sound to bad but when I woke up they were giving me pain killer in the IV and it did not seem to work for about 5 hours I hurt as bad as I ever have, also they do not tell you will have so much air and gas in your abdomen you can not urinate and you are swelled up. I am getting better now this is Sunday afternoon. I have perkocet pills to take and I have been using them every 6 hours or so and they seem to be controlling it. It sounded so simple and easy but it really was not. Jeff

Been there, done that. No fun.
I took the meds 2 days then just took Tylenol for a couple more. I don't like pain meds.
It does get better.

Mine was in April of 2016. Never had any of the problems you had.
Just luck on my part? Who knows. Up and around like nothing ever happened.
Hope things get better fast for you.

I had one taken care of several years ago with mesh. Thankfully I had no issues with my procedure afterwards. I did mine at the beginning of a vacation and was back working the next week.
Best of luck with your recovery.

My cousin had it done several years ago. I called him while he was still on pain killers and he kept telling me he had a hysterectomy. I told him the word he's looking for was hemoroidectomy. I wish I'd have recorded that conversation.
Hope you are back on your feet asap sir.

I can relate.
I had a double repair Dec 2013, Arthroscopy, they pumped my abdomen full of CO2 to get the space to work.
When I woke up, 'what the f did you do to me, you @%$#s dropped me of the gurney and broke my ^%$$#$$ arm!'.
Actually there was a lot more profanity and yelling, but my daughter was able to calm me down. It's a gas bubble under your diaphragm, it just feels like your arm's broken and it'll dissipate in a day or two.
Took awhile to get back up to strength, but was better than what I had been dealing with.
Hope you have a speedy recovery !

Been there, done that. Small repair in groin area, with mesh. Took about 30 mins in outpatient ward on a Friday AM. Used a mesh. Doc said he did not stitch me up, but used Super Glue. latest technique he says - no scars after healing. Friday night worst pain I've ever experienced ( and I have a very high pain tolerance ) Gobbled Percosets & Vicodin for next two days - no effect. Pain didn't stop until about noon Monday. called Doc and chewed him out. He said the procedure was text book simple for me and a small hernia I had since I was born, he says, only new thing was the Super glue to close the incision, so I must be allergic to Super Glue??? Ed.

I had a small hernia fixed while laid off back in 1988. Out patient procedure, in and out same day, piece of cake. NOT. They give you enough pain killer so you can walk out and go home. Then about 8 PM it all wears off and the BIG HURT starts. I had a family vacation planned and so we went. I couldn't drive and moaned and griped a lot. Big con job.

Doctors lie to you. Had my left knee replaced June 28th. Spent the next 6 weeks waiting for the next oxycodone. Thank God for bourbon. Supposed to have the right one done next but can't work up the courage. Maybe next year.

I had mind repaired in May, I had a double repair. I was cut open and had mess implanted. the doc stapled me closed. I had so much pain from the surgery and the staples. I had to wait 14 days to have the staples.
I think the mess has let go and I may have to have it done again.

And a word of caution: Taking all those pain pills they hand out will constpate you severely causing problems with straining risking disrupting wound or hemorrhoid if you are so inclined. Fiber, fluids, prune juice etc. is recommended.

Not all of them, but it pays to be wary, nevertheless.
I went to an orthopedic surgeon my GP recommended when my left knee started acting up. First he gave a steroid shot. Pain went away for about 3 weeks. He said another shot wouldn't do me any good, and I needed the knee replaced. I went to someone else for a second opinion. Dr. #2 exrayed both knees and came back with a puzzled look on his face. "Which knee did you say hurt?" he asked. The left, I replied. He told me the left one looked OK but the right one was boogered up (a medical term) and he couldn't understand why it wasn't bothering me instead of the left. His recommendation was leave them both alone. Turned out the left knee pain was caused by a nerve in my back. A quick and painless nerve block took care of it.
To this day, I believe Dr. #1 was looking for a payment for his Mercedes. I told my GP about him and she got really ticked and said she would never recommend him again to anyone.

If something doesn't seem right, make sure you tell someone ASAP. Jut buried a friend who had a double repair and gall bladder procedure - went back to ER because he couldn't pee, they cathed him, sent him home; he died, possibly a heart attack, but autopsy results not in yet. His bladder had 4X the max amount when he went back to the ER.....
Good luck and have a speedy recovery.

Went through that last year. Only I had no pain or any other problems. I took Ibuprofen for a day but more as a pain PREVENTER than anything else. I never had any pain after that. Healed up fine and now I can't even find a scar.

Wow I feel for you. Get well soon.
Mine was easy peasy. The worst part was the catheter I had to wear home for a week.

I recently had a friend die from an untreated hernia. It had strangulated and got septic. Good that you are being proactive about the condition.
Had two hernias repaired, the first was pretty painful but the second one did not really bother me at all. Perhaps I had learned how to move.
Post surgery, let those suckers heal before you try to do any lifting and walk - a lot.

A nurse told me about this concoction for constipation:
1 part All Bran cereal
1 part Apple Sauce
1 part Prune Juice
Mix well and take 3-4 tablespoons at bedtime. Take a couple more tablespoons the next morning if needed. It's best to start a couple of days before starting the pain meds.

Had one repaired a few years back after living with it for over 15 years. Never more than a dull ache even after the hardest day's work. After the lump got so big my palm would barely cover it the wife had enough and chased my butt into getting it fixed. Out patient surgery kept me there until I peed then I took a pill after I got home, then another a day or so later when I felt the first BM coming on, both as a preventative.
One good thing about the whole experience was I found this forum during the recovery.

Have not had that but been under knife way too many times last six or so years. Everyone is differant. If something dosnt feel right get on it right away. No surgery is ever what it seemes. Keep in mind we still have human hands for the most part all in your body during surgery
