Default How often do you read all the posts in a thread

Often when a thread has 50-100 posts I read maybe 10-20 then the posts become repetitive or argumentative and I go on to another thread.

Usually the first 1/2 dozen or so to get the gist of the thread. Then sort of skim through the rest looking for those with photos ( those pique my interest the most )

If a thread really interests me, I'll try to read or skim all
the posts.

I skip any postings without frequent paragraphs and enough
type to fill a computer screen.

And I skip or quit when a contest breaks out between two
or three posters trying to get in the last word.

I read the first couple, and then I go to the bottom and read back, especially if I'm thinking about commenting. Helps me not post the same thing somebody else already did, but I still miss that sometimes . . .

Well given that I check in fairly often during the course of the day it's rare that I start reading a thread that already has 50 or more posts. So I can check back on threads of interest with the 'first new post" button........

If I'm going to comment I tend to try to read them all.....

Once "pissing contests" break out I tend to loose interest.... I do enjoy a good "Bear" thread

LOL I've been sucked into "resurrected" threads..... those that rise from the dead after 2 to 10 years after the OP!

I read every post if I am going to comment. Sometimes the last post in the thread is exactly what I was going to say so it goes without saying that I go ... without saying. It is irritating to see something posted by a guy who hasn't bothered to read the previous posts.

I tend to skip threads that already have 30 or more posts when I first see them ... unless the subject is of great interest to me. It's just too much to wade through.

I'll read just about anything if I don't get bored with it. I like facts mostly, but entertainment is fun. A lot of ya'll aren't boring.

If the OP's title has drawn me to read her or his thoughts I read every post, no matter how many or how long. I feel that commitment to the topic, the OP and the subsequent posters. I am a "reader," and I enjoy diverse thoughts on nearly every subject. I always learn something.

^^^^ This.

Of course it depends on the kind of thread. If it's an opinion thread in the Lounge, that's different from a knowledge thread in a subject subforum.

In the latter, it would be very embarrassing to provide some half-baked input because you didn't read the much more detailed answer covering the same info from a more knowledgeable member already posted.

On the hand, if the thread is about food or music preferences, and it has lots of posts, I may just skim the entries, even if I do plan to comment. Nothing wrong with several people being of the same opinion.

I will generally read every post in a thread if the subject interests me, especially if I plan to add a post, up to 2, maybe 3 pages, more if I find the subject/discussion particularly interesting. I lose interest pretty fast when discussions become argumentative or when I start seeing the same information being repeated over and over within a thread.

Depends on the thread. I skipped the first ten posts in this thread because Tapatalk linked me to the second page and I figured I probably didn't miss anything earth shattering on the first page.

If I am going to comment, I read all the posts for sure. I try to read all the posts of a thread I start to read regardless. I guess I like to finish what I start, or I'm OCD...or both. Generally, I enjoy the variety of interactions among the members here. It also helps me keep up with the latest buzz about what caliber is best to dispatch rogue neighborhood bears.

If it is a subject that interests me I will read all the posts. On other threads, especially here in the lounge, I will read some and skim through others.

On threads I start, I try to read each and every reply in it. The only replies I will skim or skip are the ones with no punctuation or capitalization and are hard to read and understand.

Or one that is so full of typos that you have to spend time trying to decipher every other word.

You mean your not supposed to read the WHOLE thing?

Or is that why some folks like to quote ever single post so you get to read each one 10 times?

Depends on who started the thread and what ists about? If say-Walkin Jack, Snubby, Federali-Old Bear-etc etc started it-ill read it all. If I started it-I skim through it (lying through my teeth) but seriously, I rarely have time to read through em like I used to.

I read all the posts if I'm going to respond to a post. Otherwise I read what is interesting until I get tired of reading the same responses I've seen too many times (I'm shooting low left, how much should I adjust my sights?)

I wouldn't say seldom, but "not too often" seems to underestimate it. "Frequently" doesn't quite nail it either as it implies an overestimation of the times spent reading all posts in a thread.
If I were forced to reply I would say that "it" (meaning the answer to the question posited above) depends on several factors:
Topic
Thread starter
age
location
number of postes contained therein
Whether or not the thread has been locked (If a thread has been locked I will read it all-all the time)
Thusly the question cannot be safely answered unless certain parameters are set forth.
For instance a locked thread by SIP regarding naked jungle pygmies would be read in its' entirety whilst a "How old is my gun" thread might be bypassed altogether.

I stopped reading this one after post 20. Skimmed until I saw a picture of thr Gorilla, then went to the end, saw a Cajunlawyer post, read that, and posted this.About my normal routine for a thread that I find only sorta interesting.

Along the same vein I saw on the science channel the other day that they are injecting spider genes into goats. (I didn't know this was possible) Then they can make silk from the goats milk. Spider webs are about the strongest, most elastic material known. They hope to use it for replacement ligaments for knees or whatever.
