The wife and I just returned from a terrific morning of shooting at the range. The weather was pleasant and a new range officer stopped and visited. He had been a carrier sailor, then a Seabee. It was fun swapping sea stories.

After unloading the truck, the wife got on the computer and pulled up our e-mails.

It hit like a ton of bricks. A Viet Nam Vet and shooting buddy broke the news that his wife just committed suicide. Everyone speaks well of the departed, its human nature. But for real, this was an extraordinary woman. She was a bird rescue lady and rescue dog care caregiver for the Humane Society. She was a walking aviary encyclopedia. I've hunted with her and she could identify all the migratory birds. I was never at their house that there wasn't a pack of orphaned dogs underfoot. She also cared for my pal's 97 year old mother.

She suffered from recurring lymphatic cancer after having a double mastectomy three years ago. I guess she just couldn't handle the pain and suffering any longer.

She requested that her ashes be scattered at the local bird sanctuary.

Please say a prayer for my friend and his wife.

Prayers for you and your friend and his loved ones.

This is a action I have had to deal with several times. All three times there were no indications of it happening except the last time moments before the final act. We the living are the one’s that have to deal with the pain and sorrow No where in the Bible does it indicate that the act of suicide, no matter how tragic, is an unforgivable sin. If you are a believer in Christ, you will go to heaven. There are times that a person just gives up, do to pain or sorrow, and nothing you say or do can prevent the act. She is at peace and waiting for her loved ones to join her in eternal peace and joy and free of pain.

Revelation 21:4
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.

John 16:16
A little while, and you will see me no longer; and again a little while, and you will see me.

Sorry again for the loss. I still think about and remember the good times we had and the first happened over 50 years ago.

I will offer a thought. I'd bet this was a person who did not give up, but was also not willing to go through what would happen to her body if she had terminal cancer. I've seen that, both personally and professionally, and it is a hard way to go almost every time. She may have determined to address that while she still had the capacity, rather than suffer and put everyone around her through it too. (One example: My sister died of cancer about 25 years ago, and it aged my parents a lot. I think it was one of the reasons my Dad's heart gave up only only a couple of years later.)

If that was her incentive, and she made that choice rather than the alternative, it is ... not my place to judge. May she RIP, and her survivors find their peace too.

Default CONDOLENCES

As stated, it's not our place to judge or say what is forgivable or not. I'd like to believe she was thinking of sparing her loved ones the difficult times ahead. I've seen first hand both personally & professionally the toll caring for a person in the end of life can take on the caregivers.
