First "Jaws," now "Fangs"
We haven't had a good snake-thread in a while, so I thought I'd share this article and video that was taken on our very own Ocracoke Island recently. This happened in the ocean, mind you -- not a lake. Salt water. What could he have been thinking?
At least you could see this guy coming if you were out in the water....

I don't care what the snake was thinking. I'm thinking were the hell is the Navy with the 5" cannon barrage?

Thanks, I just got down (Kill Devil Hills) for my fall week in the OBX, and you have to go and show me that!
I thought I left all those up in NEPA (the Pocono's), my home area.
I was thinking about heading over to Ocracoke on Thursday or Friday, with my 91 y/o mom, but I may need to rethink that now.
LMAO!

So I wonder what type of music announces his coming at you. Maybe “We Gotta Get Out of This Place, by the Animals” This one doesn’t bother me as much as the baby timber rattler I executed in my garage. Baby wasn’t too big but got me wondering where it’s siblings, mother, and father were. Stupid chickens or wild turkeys should have eaten it. Hawks are too busy eating my chickens to worry about eating a snake.

Be careful: Timber rattlers are a protected species in some states,
If you have to kill one, don't tell the world.

I gotta admit, I was impressed when I saw how that snake absorbed those waves to the face on his way to calmer water. A couple of 'em even tumbled him asp over teakettle. He soldiered on , though, which is why I wonder what he was so single-mindedly trying to find out there. Whatever it was, he can have it!

I don't know why it's there, but think I think it's fish food.

Not protected here. I usually don't bother snakes, have caught several gardener and black snakes in the house including a shed from a 6 foot black in the attic, don't know where he got to. I put them outside , wife don't want them in the house even though I tell her we don't have any mice. But with the grand kids around and this bad boy in the garage it was his time to go. Plenty of woods and rocks for them away from the house. I don't know if he would have found his way back if I had hauled him away but like I said with the grandkids I wasn't taking any chance. Besides being under the truck on a creeper and looking over and seeing him head my way was his mistake. The rest of it's family is still out there and happy away from the house.

I had to soak one of our ball pythons for a while to help him shed this weekend. We also soak some of our snakes before they hibernate. It tends to make them...um...empty their digestive track before their big rest. Most snakes do quite well in water. Even those not particularly noted as water lovers.

Multiple Cat 5 Hurricanes, 7+ earthquakes, a crazy fat kid / Rocketman and now Rattlesnakes swimming into hurricanes.
I'm beginning to believe the world is coming to an end theories are coming true!
