Default Most important post for this forum...ever.

If you have an iphone 6 or newer go to Settings>General>Accessibility>Magnifier. Turn it on then go to home screen. Now hit your home button 3 times and hit Magnifier. Wala, your very own magnifying glass!

Thanks, Sip.

That's even more useful than the 'Mirror App'...

I have an iPhone 5s, and the magnifier can be activated the same way as stated in the OP.

All of this does not justify the price Apple wants for their new phones.

The reported price of the new model coming out in November is $999 + tax.

I think a brand new with up to date technology $300 to $400 Android phone that is customizable plus a nice pre 1996 $600 to $700 S&W revolver is better use of $1000

Thanks for that, I can see the front sight again!
Now to figure out a split-screen zoom feature for the target.

It could be called the Isight app.

It is great for reading menus in restaurants when you forget your readers.

Have it on my 5C as well, very useful but I don't really understand the camera button-like feature. It appears that its function is to freeze whatever you've magnified, but doesn't actually take a photo. When you click it a second time the frozen image goes away.

About 85% or more of the world's smartphones are not Apple. The story was a lot different when they were the innovator and not the follower.

It's the 'Store" that makes Apple,Google and Microsoft tons of money!

How much have you contributed?

Your figures don't match companies, they match the market share of operating systems. >83% of cell phones worldwide are Android OS phones, made by a plethora of companies among whom Samsung is the 800lb. Gorilla. About 15-16% are iOS phones, made ONLY by Apple. Apple and Samsung are the story, and they are neck and neck most of the time. No other Android based phone comes close to them.

What is an "iPhone?"

This is what I use - I call it "My phone." With it, I can send and receive phone calls.

I'm still trying to figure out what an inverted color is.

How do you hold one upside down and why would you want to do it?

Is it a drug thing and I just wouldn't understand?

I still have a flip phone. It's on 3 hours a day...5 days a week. It does too much, can't imagine one of those new fangled ones.

Didn't work for me when I tried it this afternoon. Even though it was 84 degrees and bright sunshine, the ants just walked away.

So many responses, and all I can remember is inverted colors and a doobie. What were we talking about? I need some tacos.

Default A very handy iPhone app

Some of you may not know that, if you have an iPhone v.6 or later, there is a magnifier included in it.

Go to settings -> General -> Accessibility -> Magnifier and turn it on. Then tap the home button THREE times and you will be greeted with a very nice variable magnification through the camera lens. You can also turn on the light and the view can also be photographed for later use.

It is a valuable asset when checking fine details in the poor lighting that seems to exist in most gun shows these days.

Thanks, Bob, but Sipowitz beat ya to it with a post a day or two ago. Useful to know, and I have passed on the info to friends and family, too.

That is handy to use if only I could remember it’s on my phone. There is a thread started a couple days ago on this subject.

Aw, I have a magnifier on a Silva compass and it was a lot cheaper than an iPhone 6!

Seriously, my brother may soon get the 6 version. I'll make sure he knows that info.

I do occasionally find the flashlight on my iPhone 5C useful but carry a separate flashlight. The compass is handy, too, but I have a Silva in my briefcase.

Jim,

It may be available on your iPhone 5 also. I just don't still have that version to check. I'm assuming that it is also on the just released iPhones 8 and X. I've seen no compelling reason for me to spend a grand to upgrade to the X.

Bob
(Note: I think that I gave my Silva compass to the Boy Scout Museum along with my K&E Slide Rule )

I've had it on my iPhone 5s for quite some time, so it it does work on the 5
