Default Medicare Home Health Checkup??

I received a call from Aetna my Medicare provider, they wanted to schedule a home health care checkup. I’ve never heard of this before and I declined in no uncertain terms. So, I have three questions:

Has anyone else received a call like this?
Did you accept their offer?
If you’ve had one of these visits, what’s involved?

Thanks All

I have. I have Aetna, and when I was put on Medicare due to my SSD, their sub-contractor (Matrix) has been harassing me ever since. Due to my injuries, I see my cardiologist every 6 months, my orthopedic every 6-12 months, and because of my general health, I see my GP every 3-4 months and my endocrinologist every 6 months. I see my doctors enough. Matrix calls every couple of months, wanting to do monthly at home well checks. Every time they call, I decline the visit, and remind them to remove me from their call list.

Fred I think ours is Humana and Manhattan Life as the supplement. Don't think we have ever had anything like that requested.

My wife has True Blue. They have made the house call 2 or 3 times over
the past few years. First couple of times it was an older retired Doctor.
Last time it was a nurse. Just a routine check up. If you go to your
regular doctor every year or so, the visit is probably not necessary.
If you don't go to your doctor regularly, it can't hurt to make the
appointment.

In our insurance plan they have a outfit that calls you and on occasion asks to come up to your house. It works if you have certain medical problems, age or the amount of doctors you see. They will come up (house call) for certain matters if order to keep prices down.

Its worked OK for us, they do a short physical, have access to medical records. Ask some of the dumb questions that many nurses ask when you go to the doctors office (Like are you safe in your house type things) They did pull some stitches and another time did a ear flush, saved me the cost of paying the doctors office a co-payment and they came to the house. This house call service is FREE, and it saves me a 20 mile trip in both directions!

If they get to PITA territory I will tell them to take a hike. Been with then 4 years now!

Thanks, all. It sounds like this is OK then. If they call back I may give them a try. I've got nothing to hide but I don't want anyone pawing around the house, once I let them in.

I think I would say just contact my doctor for anything you want to know. I don't see any good coming from some stranger working for an insurance company coming into my house. Insurance companies know who my doctors are and most likely my medical history anyway.
They also can take their immunization shots and stick them in their own arms.

I first would verify they are who they say they are first by taking down their number and call the insurance to have them verify they work for them and that is their number.

I have Blue Cross & Blue Shield and Medicare part A. The Blue Cross & Blue Shield has a nurse call me on the phone once a week to check on me to make sure I can get the services that I need so that if I Do not get the services I would end up back in the hospital. She has seen that it has cut the I costs.

Fred...I would definitely NOT let any insurance (or any other sales person) in my house...i see NO need for it .... what specific reasons do they give for a home inspection........

my medicare insurance comes directly from the federal government...you mentioned that yours is through aetna....our supplement insurance is with an independent insurance company..

i thought medicare was a government insurance program.

My next door neighbor is a certified EMT. She works part time doing these home visits. They basically involve blood pressure check, a CBC, cholesterol check, blood sugar test where applicable, and a few basic health questions. Nothing much of value to you unless you are unable to see a regular doc now and then.

I hadn't thought about it could be the insurance company want to check to see if perhaps your insurance Part B is being billed for things you aren't even using or needing. But if that was the case then all they would need do is ask me about it. Nah, I still don't need them coming into my house.
