Jake LaMotta Passes Away
Middleweight Champ Jake LaMotta passed away yesterday due to complications from pneumonia.
He was 95-years-old.
He achieved fame in the ring, and as the subject of Martin Scorsese's 1980 Academy Award winning film, Raging Bull.
His bouts with Sugar Ray Robinson are the stuff of boxing legend.
Rest In Peace, Champ.

Funny thing about the film. I boxed a little in my (much) younger days, and still follow the sport to a degree, and I'll still pound on the heavy bag now and then...but I have a problem watching parts of the film, even though real life boxing matches are often equally as bloody.
To this day I haven't figured out why I'll turn my head away from some of the film's sequences. I mean, I know it's make believe...special effects, but still...go figure.

He took some terrible beatings over the course of his career. Some of his bouts wouldn't make it past the fifth round in today's world before being stopped by the ref.
The effects of his career showed on his face as he got older. Not sure about his brain.

Thanks for the heads up, Watchdog, I thought I had heard something on the news about this, but students were bending my ear at the time. As others have commented, he was a legend.
Best Regards, Les

I don't know if he was anything like Robert DiNero Played him in the movie but it is a shame if he wasn't. His wife Vicki was a piece of work as well (in the movie as played by Kathy Moriarty) Joe Pesci played Jakes little brother and all turned in stunning performances.
Also I thought some of the scenes of the fights was some of the best ring footage ever. I LOVE THAT MOVIE!!!
Jake Lamata truly was a raging bull.
