That moment when . . .
You're getting your EDC backpack ready to fly to Vegas for a purely personal trip (only about the fifth flight since I retired in 2015), and you realize that what you carry around everyday looks like a terrorist starter kit . . .

I know that feeling, even without flying.
I live close to the People's Republics of New Jersey & Maryland, and have to be very careful about making sure to take certain things out of my vehicle (not to talk about off myself), when traveling to either.

In my neck of the woods (PA) last I knew firearms were prohibited at casinos. I was not generally in compliance with their rules, but that's what they were.... And yes, they really like the green folding money here as well.

My everyday, at arms length, kit bag does not look like a terrorists bag, but instead looks like a mechanics-survivalist bag. Everything from hacksaw blades to a fishing kit.

You're experienced enough. It should look like an anti-terrorist experienced kit.

Same in Michigan, no guns in casinos. Vegas however doesn't have any restrictions. In saying that I'd make sure it's well concealed.

But does it match your shoes? That's the important part!

Just out of curiosity, do you generally leave your EDC bag in your vehicle or a stationary place (hotel room, etc...), or wear it at all times?
The reason that I ask is because I put one together when Irma was supposed to hit us directly (SC). Honestly, though, I would feel kind of odd walking around WalMart, or anywhere really, with a "go-bag" on my back. Truth be known, I feel as though people think I am going to steal something if I am walking around with a bag...

True story...
I was riding my motorcycle and stopped at Wal Mart. I had a tank bag (about the size of a large purse) and took it with me as I went in because it's not secured to the bike. As I walked through the door, the greeter stopped me and told me I had to leave the bag at customer service. I looked at her and said, "Would you be telling me that if I were a woman?" She looked shocked for a second and said, "Well, I guess not. You can keep it with you." I left it at customer service because I didn't want to carry it through the store, but it was a funny incident.
Most stores around here won't let you in if you have a back pack. I'm sure it's to cut down on theft. Still not very fair to men though.

Not at all times, but it doesn't bother me to carry an EDC bag around with me in public. Sometimes I don't, but sometimes I do. It just depends on what I think I need to carry with me that day. Sometimes it's just a wallet and phone, like most of the time in Vegas where we didn't stray very far from the hotel property, but sometimes, like in New York or at the beach, where I'm far away from the room, I carry it around. At home, it stays with me, although sometimes I leave it in the truck. Look around some time and count how many people are carrying a backpack or shoulder bag. There's a lot . . .

I just looked this up and it seems the casinos in PA are on their own when it comes to prohibiting guns. Signs here have no force of law here, so they can just turn you away if they catch you. I don't go in casinos here. I learned something. Interesting comments in the article from various 'experts'.

I don't like casinos but I do like to shoot craps. I have found the least painful way is to drive up to the front door, roll down the window, throw the allocated amount of money on the ground then drive away. The end result is the same and not as time consuming. Just a slight bit of humor here. hardcase60

I generally use the same bag as a carry on that I use as a "kit bag". before I go on a flight, I take everything out and use a shop vac on it.... if you think I'm paranoid, or OCD, I was once stopped in Zurich by security. They took everything out of my bag and kept looking, and finally I asked them what they were looking for. They showed me the xray photo which showed a tiny screw, which had fallen out of an eyeglass repair kit!! They finally let me go... Never know what they are looking for!!
Best Regards, Les
