lawn service
For the first time in my life I had a service cut my lawn. My yard is 210' x 165' . house, pool, @ shed and a lot of plants and things to trim around. This young man did one nice job even blew the driveway clean. He did all this for $40.00 dollars. Man what a life saver and the wife's family is coming over Saturday all 23 of them.

When I purchased my first home 36 years ago I went out and bought all the power equipment to properly take care of my property. Did it for about 3 months and hated every single minute of it! Sneezing, eyes watering, sweating with grass sticking to me, uhh not for me. I quickly hired a Landscaper, sold all my equipment and have been happy ever since!
I'll do plumbing, electrical, carpentry, snow plowing, power washing, take care of the cars and motorcycle, open and close the pool and I'll even paint (small jobs at least) but there is no way I could ever do lawn work again!

My yard is about 5 acres that I actually mow.. The rest I bush-hog or cut for hay.
I have a Kubota 54 inch zero turn mower, a 54 inch Land Pride finishing mower for my tractor, and a 48 inch John Deere riding mower. If my wife or youngest son helps we can knock it out in about an hour and a half, otherwise it takes me nearly three hours to mow it. Then I pull out the push mower for around the house, then one of my two weed eaters for trim work.
It's a half a day job most weeks, and I mostly enjoy doing it.

I use to enjoy mowing the lawn and blowing the snow off the sidewalks.
In fact I use to do the whole cul-de-sac for the neighbors, but time has taken it's toll. I use to be able to do the lawn in an hour. When it got to where it took 3 days, I hired some help. When my wife found out the same fellers would do the sidewalks in the winter, we sold the mower and the blower.
Ain't missed it a bit.

I like mowing but the job you described would take about double that to hire me.
I'd do 2 acres of flat ground that's not overgrown for $40 with no trimming but if I start the damned weedeater price goes way up.

I have almost 4 acres that I mow. Love it. Takes about 2 1/2 hours; it would take less if I didn't have 100 trees.
My John Deere x738 does a good job.

The advantages of condo living. It's all taken care of. We formerly had a half acre, with a dozen gardens on it but I could usually get it done in about an hour & a half on my John Deer.

Got 3 1/2 acres to cut at the parsonage. Got a sometimes reliable Toro and a off brand weed eater. Takes about 3-3 1/2 hours depending on how heavy the grass has grown and on how much the lawnmower wants to run. Going to retire in 10 years. My wife and I have bought a nice condominium down the street from where our daughter and husband have their home. I will sit on the upstairs deck and watch the lawn crew maintain the shrubbery, flowers and grass. If I get to longing for old times ... I'll walk down the street to where my precious little grandson lives ... and let him watch me cut his grass for him so he can play in the backyard. Otherwise, I intend to be done w/ grass. JMHO. Sincerely. bruce.

When I moved to town from the ranch, I wanted into one of them Condo things.. No lawns and no sidewalks to clear..
I got outvoted by a majority of one and spent 15 years mowin' and blowin' but I'm all done now.

I'd rather maintain 5+acres of lawn than a 1/2 acre.Riding a lawnmower beats pushing one any day.

I have a groundskeeper. His name is Jeremy, and he does a much better job than I could in my decrepit state. He does stuff in ways that I think are wrong, but I bite my tongue. I'd much rather him do things wrong than me do them right. And I'm one of his best customers, maybe his very best one.
Each week I chase him down the road waving money at him. I pay him every time with a smile. He also does a good job of trimming, maybe just short of spectacular. The last few days the temps were up almost to 90, but Jeremy just cuts and trims away. Keeps me happy.
Down the road a bit the stupid city brought in goats. I was kind of afraid they'd be attracting ISIS fighters, some being female goats. None yet.
I'm going to guess one of the most peaceful sounds is a mower cutting your lawn while you nap in your recliner. What also makes me smile is hearing the neighbors mower whilst I'm sleeping. I can almost hear those fools sweating.
Now lets not confuse mowing with snowblowing. The blower is one of the best power tools ever. Like so many things it can be used for good or evil. I prefer the evil uses. I pretty much detested my former neighbor, Roy. He was a piece of work if I ever saw one. Didn't work, nor did he partake in any form of yard work. He had free rent, and one rule of life was not to move away from it. He didn't move willingly, but the state took him away back in July of 2005. Its been pretty much vacant ever since. Hard to do evil in the summer, easy in the winter.
One winter he had his van crash landed out front. Usually I'd clear the snow all the way down to the widow womans house, but I'd drag the blower over his walk. Then one day I decided I'd give in to my wife and other neighbors complaints that I should do his, too. So I did, blowing all the snow under his van. That made it pretty much immobile for the rest of the winter. When they finally just had to move it, it took them hours to shovel it out. And the beauty of a snow blower is the stuff kind of behaves as a liquid until it stops moving. It then turns into a solid. Like ice, with a nice smooth top just like Gawd put it there Himself. I can't think of any other evil where it comes out looking innocent.

I got a feeling some of you guys who "enjoy" all that lawn mowing have at least two cup-holders on your "Johnny", or a luggage rack with a cooler bungee strapped on or something. ??

I have two acres and I actually like mowing it. Kind of a mental break for me. Now if I had to use only a push mower that would be a different story. I have a Cub Cadet 25hp 50" cut rider tractor and a New Holland 18hp diesel 4x4 compact tractor.

It takes me 2 hrs. to mow with a 52 in. Bobcat Zero turn. We rent out the rest of the homestead to a man that makes hay.
Mowing is not the most fun thing I've ever done but it is the cost of having a little space between us and the neighbors and most times I don't mind doing it.
I'll be 76 next week and I know that someday I'll have to make some other arrangement but I'm going to mow as long as I'm able. Larry

The way my property is laid out I have about a 1/2 acre of scattered grass to take care of. It varies from a hilly slope to a very steep ravine and due to house and the many trees and the outside garage placement it is a PITA to cut.
I have a 31HP tractor that can use all sorts of cutting attachments but do to all the obstacles not a good choice. Even a ridding lawn mower is dangerous because of that steep ravine.
After my 35 YO Lawn Boy died last year I bought a Troy Built 21'' self propelled mower. Just take your time and do it, that old LB and the TB are the safest most practical way to cut my grass.
I might in the future relinquish cutting as there area couple outfits that do that kind of work, but as I said this is a hard place to cut.
I hate grass cutting as much as painting, but its got to get done and retired I do have the time.
Other outdoor work like raking/leaf blowing weed whacking, chain saw work and snow jobs not a problem. I have a 4x4 PU with plow, the above described tractor with a 48'' bucket and a few different hand shovels to do snow work. Living in the mountains we see plenty of snow!

Living in Michigan, I get the 'pleasure' of mowing in warm weather and snow blowing in winter. I'll take snow blowing over lawn mowing any day. I have no allergies to snow, whereas mowing can really raise cane with me.

No. The drone was hovering over the road in front of my property when I took this picture. I have about a 75 yard buffer of trees between the road and my yard so that the house is not visible from the road, even in the fall when the leaves are off.
The row of trees running up the left side of the photo is a tree canopy over my driveway up to the house. They are a mix of tulip poplars and red, sugar, and autumn maples. I planted those trees when I built the house 25 years ago and have babied them through the years and the past couple of years they've been large enough to actually cover the driveway like I intended when I planted them.
The clump of trees at the 10 o'clock spot in the pasture is a pond that's hidden in the photo.

Ha! I actually used goats to clean out fence rows a few years back when my boys were still at home and tasked with keeping up with them. Now that they have gone off to college I have no desire to deal with the goats myself.

Takes me about 30 minutes to weedeat, mow and blow off. Mostly because Mom takes care of all her garden areas. When she is gone there will be some major changes. I just do not get into gardening like she does.
