Default After Seth Bullock, before Raylan Givens

My favorite Hawaiian, Timothy Olyphant, played two iconic roles - the perpetually angry Sheriff of Deadwood, Seth Bullock, and gunslinging Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens. In between he was also Pierce County Sheriff David Dutten in the 2010 remake of George Romero's "The Crazies".

Its a decent movie, available on demand from Starz if you're interested. Of note is his sidearm through most of the movie - his Dad's (the previous Sheriff) 3 1/2" Model 27. Dutten loses his Glock early on, and goes on to rack up a respectable body count with the old N-frame.

He is one of my favorites. He is a very good bad guy as well.

I really wish Justified would be brought back. Great series.

Don't forget "The Girl Next Door" where he plays the pimp. His famous quote " You gotta ask yourself, is the juice worth the squeeze?"

He's also really good (and funny) in "The Santa Clarita Diet" series where he is the long suffering but devoted husband to his zombie/cannibal wife Drew Barrymore.

Thanks for the tip. I've liked him since Deadwood and Justified.

I saw him in a Jennifer Anniston movie a while back and it was pretty funny but I didn't catch the title. During the closing credits Jennifer was teasing T O about Justified. I think she wants him.

Since it's Halloween "season," check out Scream 2. He's great in Live Free or Die Hard too!

He also had a role in an episode of "My Name is Earl". Sort of a different look.

I enjoyed the Justified series but the language turned me off.

The first TV Raylan Givens was James LeGros, back in the 1997 TV movie "Pronto". No Glock for that Raylan.

LOL understand that the Glock is issue for the US Marshall's.....per Tommy Lee Jones ........ but always thought RG should have had something with more personal style!!!!!

Cocked and locked 1911 or Hi-power with stag grips.........
that 3 1/2 inch 27 would have been cool................................. maybe a
Sig 220 .......... or
Smith 4566
S&W Performance Center SD-9 or .356
Bren Ten anyone?????????

After all it is TV......................

Justified is far enough behind me that I've been thinking about binge watching the whole thing again. Maybe when it gets a bit colder.

I still need a Raylan hat but haven't found one that doesn't cost an arm and leg.

I always enjoyed Justified. It was filmed mainly in Green Valley, CA where I use to live. It was also shot in Santa Clarita, Altadena, Piru, and Santa Paula.

We'd get notices that there was going to be filming with loud gun fire, tires screeching, cars racing, etc. It was always fun to hang out and watch them shoot it.

If you ever watch the old episodes watch for orange trees in the background. (In Kentucky?)

I still need a Raylan hat, but I'd look like a damn doofus.

I always liked that role. I thought it was a good adaptation from the original Elmore Leonard, where he was a brief character, at best, in...Maximum Bob, I wanna say. I liked that he wasn't a supernaturally good shot, or supernaturally fast--although he was fast--or the perfect brilliant detective. He was just a decent shot, who was pretty quick, sorta clever, and usually cool.

Olyphant really doesn't get enough good play. I've been half-meaning to grab Deadwood from the library.

The Crazies isn't a terrible modern horror story. Yeah, it leans on gore a bit, but I bet that if the old-school horror moviemakers had access to the effects and prosthetics of today, they'd have used them.

Live Free or Die Hard wasn't bad. Better than the travesty that came after it, but not as good as One or Three.

If you just saw It or The Dark Tower, you might consider watching Dreamcatcher. It's a fair-to-only-okay movie, and one of Stephen King's weakest books (he's a little anti-gun, and hasn't written a true great since he got clean--writing is like jazz, apparently). But the acting is pretty great.

He played Ving Rames' (sp?) partner in the Gone in 60 Seconds remake. Sort of an underwhelming part for him.

He also did a voice spot on Archer--which is worth watching if you like, as I do, stupid, crass humor.

Don't ask how I keep track of all this nonsense.

Finishing up watching season one of Justified. I had forgotten how good the first season was.

Here's the mine set from season 1. They rented a neighbors' quonset hut style covering where they kept their RV and made it the opening of the mine. They added computer generated graphics above the mine to add the face of the mountain. The set was there for years. I can't imagine what that cost the studio.
