Default WWI German U-Boat Found Nearly Intact Off Belgium Coast

I find this kind of discovery fascinating. Amazing that it is still there after 100 years. The article is a little long to reproduce here so follow the link. Below is a period photo of a U-Boat of the same type.

Amazing what is still hidden by the sea. So much history just sitting and rusting.

Sobering part in the article they said at first it was identified as a ww11 landing craft because they are so common in the area.

That is the final resting place of the crew. The proper thing to do is to respectfully leave it alone. If there is a historic reason to raise the sub, the crew is to be treated with full honors and reburied at sea.

There has been to much grave robbing of the US coast by pleasure divers, I would hate to see that happen to any crew!

On the other hand, with DNA testing, they could id each set of remains (if dog tags weren't used back then and there's any remains left) and give them a proper burial in a military cemetery.

Looks like a mini type VII-C. Thanks for the story. Horst Bredow I'm sure is all over this news in Cuxhaven/Altenbruch.

Sailors belong at sea and those on board that boat have departed on their final patrol! LEAVE THEM ALONE! ! !
