Default You ever want something like that?

I have a piece of real estate in my mind that I'd love to own but I can't buy. Not just for lack of funds but because it is flat not for sale. It belongs to the US Government and they're never gonna sell it. I want to see if 1) anybody can guess what it is and 2) see what interesting pieces of real estate our assorted band of quirky oddballs and lovable misfits would want to call home, but couldn't even if they hit the lottery.

One hint, it's a very large structure.

We need mo clues, exalted rifled one!
Here in NM , the Feds and the State own a lot of real estate.
The Feds (BLM) has a list of wanted property and a list of excess properties.
A while back, a local wealthy ranching family traded a 4,000 (I think) ranch for 80 acres.
What a bunch of dummies!
The ranch was over by the El Malpais Monument, and had water needed for a visitor center.
The 80?
Santa Fe. North side, Sort of West behind the opera.
Loaded up now with million dollar houses!

There's place on Kauai that houses a part of the Pacific missile test range IIRC. Looked like a nice spot and you could use that radar dish (or whatever lives under the radome) to get great satellite reception.

Yep! Plenty of room for a car collection and an open air garage/machine shop. Then go up about half way and build a platform for a loft/apartment. I don't quite know the layout but it looks like there is plenty of room outside for auto cross and drag strips.

While they may not sell it to you, they might very well lease it to you.

Everything's for sale for the right price.

Now, being willing or able to pay that price is a whole new discussion.

Actually government owned real estate is easy to buy. All you need to do is show that you can do something productive on it.

I don't know anything about this particular place, but if it's in the Tustin that's in CA, I can't imagine why you would want to live there.

"One hint, it's a very large structure."

Rdr Bill wasn't good, just lucky! Even if you limit your "very large structure" description to blimp/dirigible hangers there are still several around the country. How could he possibly know it was at Tustin?

And, while it isn't for sale now, it likely will be in the next few decades, during a round of base closures! Just another CA example, who would have ever thought Oakland Army Terminal would have ever been surplused?

The base at Tustin was close a while back. They just haven't re-purposed it yet.

Just so they don't start selling off national parks and monuments.

Mmmmm. Let's see large structures owned by the government for a bunch of quirky oddballs. But you said not for sale. Self edit to avoid a gig.
