Though things are at least here-returning back to normal-for places like Rockport, Aransas Pass, etx-normal is still far away. As a cashier at H.D, I'm allowed to give up to $50-discount on a purchase to those I can help out who are in those areas-and I get quite a few who come from those areas. Sometimes even after that write-off-I can also squeeze in an extra 10%. Doesn't sound like much but, not being a member of any level of management-that's all I can do-without getting fired.
If a person spends $1,000--I can save them $100-with a managers approval-and I get that quite often. Sometime I can fool the register and can find a way to squeeze in a bit more. As long as I get the OK by my supes--ill continue to do so. They also know I'm doing this not just for vets-but LEOs, firefighters etc. It does irritate me that others aren't following suit.
In doing so==it not only creates customers who are very grateful but also creates more customers for the store. I'm NOT doing this to get them for the store-doing this to TRY to help those in the hardest hit areas to try to recover a bit faster with less pain.
Here is one example.
I had a bone fide (and ive known him for over 20 years) Vietnam vet who was a Green Beret. Losing almost everything didn't effect him as much as losing his beret-which had his blood stains on it-as well as the blood from a fellow G.B who died. Ive seen his beret before-docs-awards etc. Like BKreutz-this guy is the real deal. Anyway, I was glad I was able to help him out more than once.
Ill try to explain more later-my battery is about dead.
Edited to correct--I MEANT to say an extra 10 percent.
