Movie Magnum Force: Smith vs Colt?
Dreary Sunday, couldn't watch another Browns game, so switched to watching Magnum Force.
Does anyone know why at least one the bad guys used a Python?
Was it a Chevy vs Ford type of thing? Forty-four Magnum (I want) against a .357 Python (I got).
This is s knowledgeable forum and there are some Dirty Harry experts on here. Someone must know the answer.

I'm pretty sure all of the bad motorcops carried Pythons. Harry even shot one during the combat match and missed on purpose to get a sample bullet.
I think they chose Pythons so they could show pimps and crooks getting shot, but not identify a particular officer. Plus, they all had to have Magnums of some sort to make the title work. Briggs, the crooked Lieutenant carried a snub Model 19. Unfortunately for him, he didn't know his limitations.
I bought a 4" Python solely based on this scene.

Had to have guns like the cops, good and bad. The good cop had the good gun.

I think Lt Briggs carried a Trooper if memory serves.

Sig, I do believe that you nailed it brother. How many cops of SFPD carried Model 29s. That would have been a dead give away if you'll pardon the pun...

I thought that, within the context of the movie at least, the issued duty sidearms for SF motorcycle cops was the Python. Harry was allowed to carry his chosen .44 Magnum due to his rank, stature within the department, etc. I don't have a clue if that was based on reality or not.

Biggs did carry a Smith Md#19 Snub Nose, but did pull a Phython on Callahan in one scene after he lost his.

I guess I never thought too much about the motor officers carrying Pythons in the movie. Some of my coworkers back in those days carried Pythons. None of us knew they would become very expensive collectables decades later. They were just nice guns back them, and some guys preferred Colts to S&Ws.
