I Sold [Two] Three Guns and I Liked It -- Update
After decades of accumulating, and only keeping "the keepers," I was pleased with each gun in my accumulation.
But I got the urge to thin the herd. So I sold three.
Space has magically appeared in a crowded safe and I have gun money burning a hole in my pocket.
Selling a gun that you like, even selling three that you like, is not the end of the world.

I have been through 100s of guns in my life. So I have sold and
traded hundreds. A lot of classic guns that are now collectors
items bring big bucks. But as desirable as a lot of these guns
were, they were just guns. They had no story behind them or
no history of personal use. I never sell a gun that was gifted to
me or one of the family heirlooms. A couple years ago I sold a
hunting rifle that I bought new when I was a teenager. Being
a 375H&H, I would probably never use it again. To old and bad
back to hack the mountains. I think of that rifle all the time, I
should never have sold it. Just like some other guns they aren't
just guns they contain memories. When you are selling stuff
off make sure you don't sell any memories, you can't get them
back.

I've sold off a few in the last few years and will be selling a few more this fall. My safe is finally becoming usable again with space enough for scoped rifles. Never regretted a single sale. Actually it makes me feel pretty good when someone gets something they wanted that isn't available as new anymore.
I have a rule. If I haven't shot a gun in 5 years it needs a new home unless it's one that belonged to my dad. Those just hold too many memories to let go.

I have sold/traded a few that I look back on with fondness, but only two I really regret: a Browning Sweet Sixteen I killed a lot of quail with in the 70s, and a Ruger No 1 International I killed a lot of deer with in the 80s and 90s.

I gave away all my long guns in 2000. I really miss sitting in the duck
blind with my shotgun freezing my b---- off. I really miss my old Model
70 Winchester and getting shot at on opening day of deer season. Just
a while back I even parted with several pistols and revolvers. Haven't
missed them at all...yet.

I have never, ever sold a gun yet! I have been trying to scrape up money to pay off my Krieghoff shotgun I have waiting for me in the store that I have made a few payments on already. Just $900 more to go.The thought has crossed my mind a couple of times to just sell one of my other shotguns or a revolver to pay it off quicker. Just can not bring myself to do it! My baby will just have to wait a little longer but will be all mine soon! I do not know how you guys do it? I have a savage 64f 22 that I call the jam-o-matic which would be first to go but still I can not justify it cause its probably only worth about $50 I will just hold on a little longer.

Sold/traded lots. My first handgun and my first rifle are long gone and I only remember about then when posts like this come up. The few rare times I wish I didn't sell was when I find a use for them later on and end up buying another. Otherwise it's just metal/plastic/wood. I've got a few now I've been thinking of selling. They served their purpose, I've moved on!

I unloaded a few on Sasaberanger to peddle recently.
Din't hurt as much as I thought it might.
Of course I've picked up two new ones since then.

Ping Pong
I bounce from sellers' remorse at parting with an old favorite to buyers' remorse upon impulsively buying a replacement I don't really need.
The guns I sold and for which I should volunteer to stand before a firing squad are: M-2 Springfield, Savage 99F X2, Marlin Marauder,
S&W Models 15, 17, 19, 36 X2 or 3, Model 37 w/3" barrel, DCM Springfield, O3-A3, Luger P-08, and an accurized GI Model 1911. There are probably more but my tears are about to short-circuit the keyboard.

I've been thinning out ones that are lower grade that I don't shoot to accrue money to have funds available when higher grade items come along to take advantage of. It feels good knowing when you go to a gun show or auction that you can bid & buy knowing the money is in your pocket.

I sold off 19 of 25 handguns, and three of five rifles, a couple of years ago. Well, gave two of those handguns and one of the rifles to my younger brother.
Classic Colts and Smiths.
In my case, I spend half of my time, probably more, most years, in Japan, and the rest in the US. My guns were/are in the US, and I found that when I was away from them, I would worry about them. Not so much their value. If stolen, they were insured. But if they were to be stolen and, God forbid, used to shoot someone.
Of course I kept/keep them locked up, but still.
My few remaining guns are split between my Oregon and Hawaii places. I worry less about them now — I guess because they are fewer. I am thinking to give the remaining Hawaii guns to my brother when I sell the Hawaii place in a year or two, which will leave me with just two handguns, a customized M65 and a customized DS, both of which I like to carry, at my Oregon place.
That feels about right to me at this stage of life.
I made a profit on the guns I sold. I enjoyed the entire experience, from doing the research before buying, to owning, and then selling. I got a kick out of watching the auctions. (Especially the auction of a Python Elite I bought for $1000 in 2003 that went for well over $4000. Brought new meaning, to me, to the phrase, “laughing all the way to the bank.”)

If that question is for me...It was my first centerfire. Argentine 7mm Mauser. It had been cut down and refinished. I shot my first deer with that gun.

1) With money in pocket buying is easy
2) Selling is harder (especially when you paid too much, see "1" above)

Just took some more over to the auction house in Cody Friday. I'm still "working off the top" and moving guns that I don't really use, or don't have much attachment to--but it's a start. It's actually easier that I thought it would be, and a bit of a relief in some ways.
I've got some distance to go before I get down to the absolute minimum.
Now if I could only sell off a few rooms of the house, one room at a time--that would make a difference!

I have bought many guns with the intent to resell. Now I get to enjoy the ones I've kept, all paid for 100% through those deals. Including all the ammo I use.
Kind of nice to have a free hobby.

I honestly can't remember ever selling a firearm.
I remember trading a few
- a Jennings 25ACP was part of a deal to get an Astra 400 in 9mm Largo, back in about 1987. The Astra was stolen, never to be seen again.
- a .410 NEF shotgun was part of a trade that netted a Ruger 44 Carbine. That trade included chicken feeding and watering stations. Really.
But I don't think I've ever actually sold one for cash.

Books? Don't need no stinkin' books..
But as I've said in other threads, I've been able to find some of the desired collectables that others have wanted. I don't keep safe queens so I've done alright.

I have a few I can not bring myself to sell. The best of the bunch is a very rare double I got from an estate. The original owner was an All American Skeet shooter way back when. He was one of the founding members of one of the oldest skeet clubs in the world...and he hunted quail with us way back when I was a kid. Never saw him miss with that old gun. It is worth more than any one I have ever had. I should sell it but I would feel guilty. The one I miss the most is an old single shot M-37 410. First gun my parents ever bought me. I was 9. After my mother passed away my father eventually re-married. He had the ol 37 for hunting wabbits when he died. New wife, of course, did not know where it was.. Although I did see it in her son's car...No serial numbers on those old guns. Otherwise I have owned literally thousands...but only a couple hundred now...And reducing that with that whole passel of grandkids.

Buy stuff that isn't made anymore, in good condition, at reasonable prices, hold it a long time, enjoy it, don't abuse it.
When you sell it years from now, or when your children inherit it, it will be worth considerably more than you paid. Maybe enough to cover the cost of ammunition and upkeep, thus free to you.
My problem is for some of my purchases a long time MEANS A LOOOONG TIME.

I,ve bought and sold over a 100 guns over the years.
In the last few years I,ve had some health problems and started to thin down my collection as I don't want my wife to have to deal with them.
Just last week I just put 5 {3 S&W revolvers} guns on consignment at my local gun store.
But I.m weak as they had a mint Ruger LW Commander for a great price.

I Sold [Two] Three Guns and I Liked It -- Update
Wish I hadn’t sold: Nambu pistol, Browning Hi-power, engraved .22 single shot pistol, 2 M1 carbines. Glad I bought back my 1903 30.06 Rifle. ‘36 Ford Roadster custom, ‘62 Pontiac Bonneville... you just can’t keep everything I guess!

Several months back I did my annual "go through the safe and wipe them down". I also checked serial numbers against the master log I keep. Updated the new ones I had not logged in and the few I traded/sold the past few years.
When I was done, there was a 4506 that I could simply NOT FIND. I recalled the gun; NIB, with several extra mags. I tore the place apart for two days. Could NOT find it.
Called my partner in crime, who I had bought it from. He tells me a few weeks after I bought it...He wanted it back...So as per the S&W buddy Oath....He got it back. I had forgot to take it out of the log .
THAT got me thinking; maybe it's time to thin the herd? I can't even remember WHAT I have anymore.
Sold four at the Gt Falls show 3 weeks back. Triples, shooter grade, etc. And I didn't DIE.
Tastes change. At least mine do. Sell or trade off the ones You NEVER use. Or the doubles or triples you seldom to never use. I don't see any issue moving around the inventory.
