Wife got 1st Buck
My wife used my 2014 chevy cruze to bag her 1st buck on I75 here in Flint, mi. tonight. Deer actually hit her in passenger door, damage is extensive. I took the truck and went to get it. I am getting old, gutting it out really took it out of me. Young man stopped to help or I never would have got it in truck. Yes I kept heart and liver.

A 10 point (Eastern count), 250lb buck in full rut hit the driver door of my Chevy pickup a few years back...he was running flat out with his head down and hit me like a cannonball. My side mirror ended up in my lap, the window shattered into millions of pieces, and one antler tine stuck me in the bicep. I figured it as payback for all the deer I've harvested over the years...and payback it was, to the tune of about $4400 in damage. Interestingly, the impact neatly severed his spine just below the neck - killing him instantly but not damaging an ounce of meat. I was traveling at the time and had to finish a 150 mile trip with no driver's window and temps around 10 degrees.
Anyway, metal and plastic can be fixed...I am glad she is fine - a deer/car collision can be deadly - and you have some fresh venison to enjoy. I am anxious to hear your take on the heart!!!

I hope no one was hurt but the deer.
My son had a similar thing happen about two years ago...

They made road kill that you can keep it last year.
Only deer, but I don't need any of my trucks wiped out by a deer, let some 18 wheeler hit them...

Jst1mr I have eaten many meals of deer heart and liver. They are sitting in fridge in salt water as I type.

Glad to hear it!!! I have enthusiastically made venison heart a tradition for many years. I am not a big fan of liver, but always enjoyed a meal or two of fresh deer liver in years past before being warned of flukes being present in some deer livers....that tradition slipped quietly away!

Glad your wife is OK.
I used to deliver newspapers at night. Had a deer run into me once. Hit the rear fender and it felt like a pretty good hit. I got out looked around, but the deer was gone, and I never did see any damage to the car.
Back in the late 70's a buddy of mine hit so many deer with his truck, that he installed one of those off road brush guards that were popular back then.
Naturally, he never hit another one.

An 18 wheeler wiped out an 8 pt bk out in front of my house several yrs ago. Horn punctured fuel tank. He rolled to a stop about a mile down the road.

I am glad your wife is ok.
I did State Farm work for a bit in my younger days and most people don’t realize the frequency with which deer strikes happen. They always seem to be worse collisions than any other type of animal strike, I suspect, because the deer are running full-tilt when they get hit/hit the vehicle. Insurance companies keep careful records of these crashes.

I recently retired and have not hit a deer with a vehicle for almost two years. Before that I hit 11 in a 10 year period. Best of luck in dealing with the insurance company.

I've seen a couple of near fatal collisions with deer, and am aware of another cop being killed by one as described above. I used to carry earplugs in my uniform pocket in case I had to shoot an injured one; did so ... 3 times, I think. Others took the meat. The risk varies by where you are in the US; PA and upstate NY are awful during the first days of hunting season. Around here it is usually elk that present the problem.
