SNUB-NOSE EDC
Every week possible, the wife and I go shooting at the Ft. Bliss Rod&Gun Club outdoor range. She claims that if I don't go shooting at least once a week that I get chemically imbalanced and grumpy.
My idea of diversity is having a wide choice of firearms. Every week, I indulge in a different variety of guns to shoot. One week it might be AR's, the next it might be double-action only revolvers, and the next, autos, etc.
Today didn't look too promising, wind storm all night, then rain early this morning. Anyway, by 9:00 AM it was partly cloudy, breezy and 51 degrees.
My 74 year old scrawny frame won't conceal a paperclip much less a full size auto, so I've become partial to snub-nose revolvers for my EDC. My all-time favorite was a S&W mod 60 but I have given it to my eldest Grandson.
Anyway for the latest bunch of years, I've carried either that S&W mod 60 or a S&W 442. In the winter or if I'm in the boonies, I've started carrying a Ruger SP-101.
So today at the range, I toted along four snubs. I shot each at seven yards, double-action, rapid fire.
The photos below are the results. Disclaimer: old eyes don't make for the best results.

SNUB-NOSE EDC
Pretty good! I’d stick with the 64. Every shot in the black, not bad at all.

Looks like you can do the job with any one of the four.
For EDC the 442 would be best. Why?
Lighter = easier carry.
Concealed hammer = reduced chance of snag on the draw,
and less likely to accidentally cock and drop the hammer.

I see your problem: It's not your eyes, it's your targets. You were using targets marked "Slow-Fire Pistol Target".
Get some of those "Rapid-Fire Pistol Targets", and I'm sure your groups will get tighter.

Chief, if you think of the 10 ring as someones navel you put all your rounds in the I hurt you zone, and most were in the you're out of the fight zone. Nothing to be worried about.

Thanks, SWSIG! Why didn't I think of that. I've got the same vision problem as the Master Chief and figured my worsening groups were because of that. Went and checked and I've been shooting at slow fire targets myself!!!!

I'm partial to the 64, but there's nothing wrong with any of those groups!

I've found that I do my best shooting at "Blurry Front Sight Targets".

I have a beautiful Lobo Leather OWB holster that fits the mod 10 and 64. The mod 10 is in near new condition and I'm almost too afraid to get holster wear on it since I've promised it to one of the grandsons.

I have a mod 64 DAO with a four inch barrel. That gun is so sweet, not much else can touch it. It consistently shoots one hole groups at ten yards.

Good shooting all around, Chief, but the 64 is the sweet spot! All are great guns, though.
Best Regards, Les

To me, holster wear means the gun was a favorite of it's owner. If my Gandpaw gave me a pistol with slick grips and blueing loss, I know for sure he thought a lot of me by passing on something he loved so much. Put your marks on it! Leave some sweat in those stocks, and leave him some of those targets to go with it. Signed and dated, Grandmaw's too.
You have good taste.

I see everything right with your abilities Master Chief. Thanks for sharing (and being humble, too).
I did two tours about 90 miles north of you -- White Sands Missile Range and Holloman AFB. Great part of our great country.
I agree with kraynky; put a bit of wear on that M&P. Let your grandson know you loved it as much as him. Maybe then he won't be afraid to use Grandpa's gun, too. Be a shame for him to hide it away among the argyles.

I'm back. Three snubbies and two autos went to the range this morning: an Italian police trade in Beretta 82 in 32 acp, a Ruger LCP II, a S&W 34-1, a S&W 36 no dash and a Ruger LCR 38. I'm usually a slow one shot at a time at 15 to 25 yard shooter. These guns didn't seem appropriate for that. So I shortened up to 10 yards and sped up to approximately one shot per second (74 year old rapid fire). The results were gratifying. Only a very few shots would have missed a grapefruit. The surprising winner is a gun that is really earning my affection...the LCR. No baseball would escaped its wrath.
I've recently read a discussion of the lCR on this forum. Apparently you either love it or hate it. It's obvious where I stand. It was love after the first trip to the range. I was so taken with it that the next week I had 3 friends shoot it, expecting a reaction similar to my own. I was shocked when the first shooter blew away the clip holding up one side of the very generous target backing; about 2 feet from his POA at 7 yards. The second fellow did better, but not by a lot. The third shooter loved it. What works for me is just pulling the trigger straight through with no attempt to stage it. Your results may vary.

Why is the Ruger "for the boonies?" Is it a .357? And why not the three-inch barrel for that SP-101?
It's too heavy for pockets.
I like my SP-101 three-incher a lot.
If your eye problem is cataracts, get 'em fixed! I was amazed at how much better I can see after that surgery. My fears were groundless.

The Ruger is .357 Mag. None of the snubs will conceal in a pocket. Saw the optometrist yesterday and the cataract is exactly in the middle of the pupil but it is too small to warrant surgery at this time. At this point it is more like a wispy cloud.
