I highly recommend getting the Fourth Edition. I would be very surprised if a Fifth Edition came out anytime soon. A Lot of research goes into each new edition. It is no small undertaking.

My Third Edition has a copyright of 2006. My Fourth Edition has a copyright of 2016. At that pace, it'll be some time before a Fifth Edition arrives.

I wish I had all four!

I borrowed a friend's 3rd edition one afternoon and found some great info that had been deleted in the 4th.

One guy's take.

So I sleep down here in the hills, being totally satisfied to have all the editions clustered on my bookshelf. Why would anyone think they only need one of them?

The 3rd edition was printed in 2006, and the 4th in 2016. On this schedule it will be 2026 before the 5th might be considered. I wouldn't wait, besides every edition has more updated info, and sometimes skips over some other previous info.

This begs a very curious and genuine question...
If you know for sure that some info that was in the 3rd Edition is not in the 4th, which info? And guess as to why?

I understand the OP's thought process. I snagged a 2nd back in roughly 2010 or so and though I pined for a 3rd, I had myself convinced that dropping money on a 3rd would actually make them release a 4th Edition.

It was Jim Supica's posting here on this site that led me to register and participate on these forums. I pre-ordered the 4th many months before they actually printed it. Love both my 2nd and 4th and will surely grab a 3rd at some point.

I have all four, and they each have their own contribution to make. Many times I'll look at each one when I'm searching on a particular issue . . .

the most favorite saying is - well this book will take a year and half to make... 5 1/2 years later, my friend and I published..... jeeeezzz... thinking about a re-print is enough of a headache, let alone a re-write
