High Winds Blew Away Our Internet and Phone Service
At around noon on Friday, there were high wind warnings and the wind blew away our phone and internet service.
Kinda strange, usually when something goes out, it's our power and we just crank up the generator. This time, there was no problem with the power. We completely lost internet and phone service.
We called them on our ancient flip cell phone and found out that more people were reporting outages.
We got both phone and internet back today at around 9pm.
Now I've gotta get caught up. I have a coupla videos to upload and people to update.
My American Indian side tells me that the Raven was just showing his power and presence and letting us know that he's not done with us yet and there's still more winter on the way.
I'm looking forward to Thunder making his presence known and moving Raven up North to bring us some summer

The wind didn't hit my companies power, phone, or internet but it did do a number on the alarm system. The monitoring people are calling us telling us that we are on fire, under water, and have been demolished by an earthquake.

They must have thought you were located in California.

Raven is a trickster for sure. Wind velocity in SE Wyoming today is 40 mph with gusts to 60. We often lose satellite internet when it's this windy. Semi trucks get tipped. Windshields are sand blasted.

Actually Washington DC is sucking so bad these days, it caused these record damaging winds. Hope everyone is ok. I had 2 trees go down in the back of my property.

Yup, I saw that. Looks like most of the really bad stuff's supposed to be north of us and we're just gonna get some rain.

Had four days of stormy weather here last week culminating with rain, hail and wind on Friday afternoon.
Lost the net.
Got it back up Sunday after a day long service by AT&T. Wires were out, my router went with them.
Hard to grasp how dependent on the net we are.
I grew up without it, but now, I use it for work and entertainment.

We didn't have internet or phone service but we still had power, satellite tv and books.
I was still able to make videos and edit them. Just couldn't upload. I figured it shouldn't take too long and it didn't.

Snubby; Once again just trying to help. have you thought of moving to a lower area so high winds would just pass over.

We live in a hollow surrounded by ridges. This kinda thing usually doesn't happen. In fact the more severe weather generally passes us.
Just once in a while, when it does happen and the power goes out, it's usually out for a week or so.
Sometimes, an outage is just caused by a drunk hillbilly driving his pickemup truck into a power pole.
Losing internet and phone service was just kinda weird.

snubbyfan,
Where I live in this great state of West by God Virginia, in a "hollar". We have to deal with a lot of power outages. I have four generators. Yep, you are right about the truck hitting a pole but most are the trees falling on the lines. If the power goes out in the night time I just wait till daylight to fire generators up. Don't have cell phone service here just got wify this year. Yes, the sunlite is piped in. Approx 10am till 4am. No matter what season of the year. Would not trade it anything.

We have a 5000 watt generator for just such an occasion.
It's beautiful out here and every season has it's own kinda beauty.
We live in a small town with old fashioned family values. Some people say we're "backward," I say that suites me just fine.

I knew a guy from Laramie who swore the windsock at the airport there was a length of log chain. Claimed they read the wind speed by the number of links that snapped off the end.
He's been dead for years. I suspect he choked on one of those stories.
