Default Just watched "A Quiet Place"

The hook is the earth has been invaded by monsters who hunt solely by sound. So you have to be vewwwy vewwwwy quiet. Or they rip you apart.

This is very effectively conveyed in the first five minutes.

I liked it, but my welder son called BS immediately upon leaving the theater.

Granted, I would have done things differently than the nice folks in the movie, but I still bought into it and enjoyed the ride.

Possibly my favorite part wasn't on screen. A young woman's cell phone went off (as you might guess, this is a very quiet movie) and she got shushed until she shut it down and all was forgiven. About 10 minutes later it fired off again, and at least two people said REALLY?? JUST SHUT IT OFF. She finally fled the theater, saying I'M TRYING TO, and never came back.

All in all, I liked the movie and (cell phones notwithstanding) it is probably best seen in a theater.

Also, the final shot in the movie should bring a smile to all of us who love pump shotguns.

Standard movie thread caveats apply:

You saw it and want 90 minutes of your life back.

You haven't been in a theater since Love Means Never Having To Say You're Sorry, and don't intend to go again.

Hollyweird is full of libtards and you'll never support them with any of your money. (Until it shows up on HBO or Red Box, then you'll support them with less money.)

So, any other fans?

I saw it had good reviews. But I am indeed one of those who hasn't been to a movie theater since "The King's Speech" and I normally wait until something I want to see comes out on Redbox. BTW, Redbox is now up to $1.75.

Anyone recognize the shotgun? Looks sort of like a Remington, but the trigger guard is wrong and I think I may see a safety atop the receiver. Mossberg?

I enjoyed your comments on how many here post concerning movies.

I like the concept of the lady defending her daughter. I'm reading John Sandford's, "Golden Prey" where an 11 year old boy saved his mother from a pair of professional murderers who wanted to torture her to learn the whereabouts of her brother. The kid got a Ruger 10-22 .22 rifle and a 25 round magazine and drove them off, wounding one. The author then speculates on the differences in firearms culture between MN, where his hero is from and that in the South, where this incident occurred. Sandford is not virulently anti-gun and actually knows a lot about guns for an author, but his background as a (can't say the word here, lest some censor thinks it's political) reporter still limits his enthusiasm for guns.

But I was delighted to see how he wrote that scene and admired that the kid saved his mother and knew how to shoot.

Sandford (real name is John Camp) moved to NM a few years ago and I'm hoping this may help him to see guns in a more positive light.

Another movie where a woman uses a shotgun effectively is, "The Seduction", where Morgan Fairchild employed an Ithaca M-37. The movie also makes the point that the police can't protect you, so you need a gun.

I had dinner at the table next to the actress and her sister some years ago and we got to talking. My mother taught her in an 11th Grade Honors English class and her mother taught in the same school system, and we share an interest in paleontology.

I told her how much I'd liked the movie and why. But Morgan could barely recall the film, let alone the gun and the plot comment about needing to provide one's own defense. I guess she just made it quickly, to get money between other film projects. But if you see the DVD, it's worth buying. It's an old movie; probably dates from the 1980's. But Hollywood doesn't make a lot of movies where civilians use guns in a positive manner...

I think the shotgun is a Browning BPS.

The mom is played by Emily Blunt, who is the real life wife of John Kraszinsky, who plays her husband in the movie.

The daughter in the picture is deaf in the movie, and is played by a deaf actress.

Well, you left out the big caveat about how Hollywood people are hypocrites because they love to use guns and violence in their films.

I like Emily Blunt, though...loved her in The Devil Wears Prada. She's married to the director of this film, you know. He plays in the film, too.

Thanks for the heads up on the film.

Well, that's a Remington M-870. But I think SIG P220 is right on the BPS in the other photo.

I saw Emily Blunt on a talk show. I think she now has both US and UK citizenship. But I believe she is also one of the more vocal anti-gunners in Hollywood...until they have a chance to earn money using guns in a film.
