Baby Seal on the Beach
My wife and I went for a drive on the beach a couple days ago and saw this little guy.
Now, I'm going to stop right here and state, before anyone can give me grief about being that close to a marine animal, that a telephoto lens and a little cropping can go a long ways toward making you seem very, very close. The fact is, is that I wasn't that close, it just looks like it. The beach patrol had put up signs to not get too close, and we were very careful.
He was apparently waiting for his mother, so I took a few photos and we left him there to continue waiting. I was hoping she'd return before he became part of the food chain. We drove the beach again today and there was no sign of him, and all the BP signs were gone, so I'll just imagine that he made it.

After double checking all of my reference material I can find no recipes for baby seal, so you probably did the best thing by leaving him alone.

In the interest of accuracy, I feel the need to point out that it was the fur trapper's lead-filled snow shoe, and that Nanook avenged his baby seal with both yellow snow and dog-do snow cones.

Yep. You did the right thing. Having lived on the coast for over 30 years, it was not totally uncommon for mama seal to leave baby and come back. Great pictures.
