Two-Tone Shoes
In memory of Tom Wolfe, I'm starting a two-tone shoes thread.
We'll see where this goes. . .

Well, this is the 21st Century after all, and everyone has the right to self-identify as they wish. If your special friends like two-tone shoes I think you should wear them proudly, put it all out there for everyone to see!
It is OK to be different. Maybe not at my house, but wherever you want to be different is up to you.

Way back I had a pair similiar to these.
Also had a pink shirt.
Got it at Lasky Bros, same place Elvis got his.

The only time I've seen a pari of shoes like that was onscreen. Any fans of Robert Rodriguez film "Desperado" (1995) will recall Bucho's red & white leather shoes as he walked in to observe the carnage after the shootout at the Tarasco bar.

I've always liked two-tone wingtips. The lighter ones go great with a seersucker suit when I have to get dressed up during the hot weather here in the South. Not sure how this translates to other parts of the country.

Back in 69 or 70 I had a pair like the brown and white ones. They were the cats meow back then.

Old friend of mine asked his wife to stop by Cox's Mens Wear and pick up his new seersucker suit. She got confused and went to Sears.

I have 3 pair of two tone shoes but they aren't "severe" and don't have white in them. They are Allen Edmond Loafers - 1 pair is mostly black with brown trim, another pair is a medium tan with chestnut brown trim and the third is burgundy with a tan trim.
Even though they are all two tone, they are a "mild" two tone and don't scream out at you.

Just over the Maryland line there is a judge I know who was always a pretty snazzy dresser and he wears black and white shoes with a vested suit.

They were (or are) called spectator shoes. I once had some 2 color Ostrich boots.
This is a description taken from Wikipedia:
Origin of name
John Lobb, the famous English footwear maker, claimed to have designed the first spectator shoe as a cricket shoe in 1868.[ citation needed]
In the 1920s and 1930s in England, this style was considered too flamboyant for a gentleman, and therefore was called a tasteless style. Because the style was popular among lounge lizards and cads, who were sometimes associated with divorce cases, a nickname for the style was co-respondent shoe, a pun on the colour arrangement on the shoe, and the legal description of a third party caught in flagrante delicto with the guilty party in a case of adultery. Wallis Simpson was famed for wearing this style, although it was said that she was an adulteress and that it was Edward VIII who acted the part of co-respondent. [5]

My favorites for Independence Day. OK, I know, they're actually three-tones, but who's counting?

I think the answer to this would be very subjective and strictly a matter of taste in shoes. But in general terms I believe that it is a style whose peak popularity has come and gone.

I'll never forget what my Mamie said to my Dad.
He looked spiffy, I thought.
His Mom asked if he was going to a Polish wedding.
Silk tweed, bet it looks good.

I have a distant relation who is now in his 80's and at every family reunion he is wearing black and white wingtips. I don't even know if you can buy them anymore or not and if so where.
