Yup, we've reached the end of the internet.
What I want to know is how do they determine which way them ticks is threaded.

I always preferred a drop of Campho-phenique. The oil plugs their spiracles - the openings they breathe through (as any oil will) and they let go to try to get away from it.
The beauty of using the Campho-phenique instead of some other kind of oil is that 1) they don't like the camphor so they let go even faster and 2) it medicates the bite.
Two birds with one stone.
This little plastic cat's paw crowbar looks like it could easily twist the little bugger's head off and leave it in your skin. That is the reason why you don't just pull on one to remove it. If the head comes off and stays embedded in your skin it can cause a nasty infection.
I'll stick with Campho-phenique thanks.
P.S. A tic is an involuntary twitch - most often a twitch of a facial muscle. The biting arachnid parasite is a ticK.

I reviewed the video, and I believe all but four had left-hand threads, but that still doesn't tell us how to tell which is which. Must require some esoteric knowledge -maybe only certain people can use them.

As an old machinist, it was easy to see. The females are left hand threads and the males are screwed in right handed.

There is also a small tick-removal device which uses a fine filament loop. I think that is what some vets use, also used at hospital emergency rooms. See below. I have used a drop of hydrochloric acid on dogs. That removes them almost instantly. But that mini-crowbar is really elegantly simple.

Heat the point of a knife blade with a lighter, touch the point to the tick, they will release without leaving part of them behind.

The newer(post-1960) variety of ticks have a small grove just behind their head, and they are left hand threaded

I just read today that possums love to eat ticks - a typical possum will eat thousands of them during tick season. So preserve your possums.

The same direction your toilet water spins. Of course Australian ticks would get spun the other way

They back out and wait to see if you'll give them another shot.

One or two drops of peppermint oil that you can get at the local drug store and they back up and out very quick. And 10 drops of peppermint oil to 1 cup of water and put it in a spray bottle, have been using that for while and no ticks so far, and black flies and skeeters don't like it either and won't land or stay long on me.
