Unhappy EVOLUTION (ON) A PICKUP TRUCK.

Darwin would have loved my truck. Always parking the same way in the driveway, the drivers side is white & OK. The passenger side OTOH (in the shade under the oaks), that I rarely see, has become an ongoing science project going from dirt/pollen, > mold, > mildew, > moss, > lichen now! In a few more years it may evolve into some kinda vertebrate life form.

My Silverado is getting mighty funky, too. The pine trees are having a big pollen year, and it's covering my black truck. Then there's the big old mulberry tree across the yard, which put out fruit this week. The birds love it, and by the time they fly across the yard to where the truck is parked, they seem to have completed the digestion process, and let loose.

Back in 1988 I bought a 1977 Ford short bed 4x4,351 black with 37,200 mi on the clock. Stripped plain Jane with a heater. Added some features & drove the old truck until 2003. Had 112 Grand by then. Left it when I moved to Oregon to my son in law. He owns a body shop. You want to see it now. Only has about 3 -4 buyers a week come into the shop but the truck is not for sale. Has around 134 grand now & never has been overhauled. Those old 351's are bullet proof.

My first new truck was a '77 F150 short bed 4x4 with the 351 M, four speed tranny (granny low plus 3 regular gears). The only option was a AM radio. It was a great truck.

I sold it and ordered a '78 set up the same way, but with a few more options-limited slip rear end, cab lights, engine block heater, etc. That one, I should have painted yellow and marked it "Sunkist". It was a real dog. I should have kept the '77.

I had a 1998 Ford F-150 for 15 years or so. It was too big to fit into my garage so most of the time it was parked under an oak tree. Folks would ask me why I carried a pocket knife. I would say, to clean out the drain slots in the bed of my truck. Leaves, oak flowers, pollen, acorns... I swear I once found an acorn that had germinated and a little oak tree was growing back there. Oh yes... it had a 4.6 liter V-8 that was electronically limited to 105 mph, which was the speed rating on the tires.

My truck is a 1989 heavy F-250 with a 460ci and 4:10 gears. I bought it to pull a camper and did for a couple years. Since then it sets out and doesn't get used much. It has 118,000 miles on it now. It doesn't have a rust hole anywhere, except the front fenders and hood are down to bare metal and surface rust. I washed and waxed it last week and from the doors back it looks like new. I'm going to try to paint the front end, it couldn't look any worse. It will pull anything and would climb a tree if it could get traction.

Ten miles a gallon on a really good day. I only drive it "when" I need a truck. It would take $40,000.00 to buy one like it now.

Still looks like this except the hood and top of fenders.
