Default OLD COMPANIONS

Last Friday, a friend rolled into town for a four day visit. He drove down from South Dakota. He and I have been friends for more than a quarter century. We spent 10 years together in the military, not always in the same unit but in close contact. The Seabees are a very small community.

While he was here, we went to White Sands, Ft. Seldon, the War Eagles Museum, Columbus, NM, the Pancho Villa State Park and of course we had to go to the range.

In my poor health, this was such a blessing. Old friends are to be cherished.

Photos:

1. He is on the right and I'm third from the right on a heavy timber bridge that we built.

2. He is one the right, I'm on the left, with an Ensign of ours.

3. Together at White Sands.

4. Him on the way to Columbus. The pathetic border fence( anti-vehicle only) is in the background, 1/2 mile away just below the horizon.

5. The two of us at the range.

Chief:

Thanks for sharing with us, but I'm sad to hear that your health isn't the best. Glad that you could still enjoy some range time!!

You're right....old friends are a blessing.

Best Regards, Les

I'd be hard put to think of a much better way to spend some time than with an old friend out in the wide open spaces. Breathing in the clean air, talking over old times, firing off rounds with hardly another soul around.

There are undoubtedly people who envy you.

Old friends are priceless, and the friendship is to be nurtured at all costs.

Have a blessed day,

Master Chief,
I am so glad that you and your long time friend could have the great reunion and spend time enjoying that reunion. I often wish I could get together with my cherished shipmates and friends I had during my enlistment in U.S.N. You have been blessed with good fortune.
Thanks for sharing this with us.

Hey Master Chief, at least you were having a good time.
I'll be out and about shooting this week, but only with my wife it looks like.
Us old guys have to take what ever we can get....
LOL!

I'm still in touch with a couple of my old tower buddies from the mid-'70s. You've reminded me, Master Chief, I should make a point of seeing them one of these days, soon.

Thanks for sharing your post.

Now if reuniting with old friends isn't what a good portion of life is about I don't know what is. A hand shake to both of you.

No fair!! I spend hours coloring my hair and putting on makeup just to make a dent in the cruelty of Father Time. YOU put on a ball cap and look "distinguished".

Lookin' good Master Chief.

Chief , there's nothing like friends you made in the military . You live with and fight beside these guys and their memories don't die . You are blessed to be able to spend time with one of your buddies . Cherish them forever .

The op really made me feel good. I read it and looked at the pics several times. Old friends are special as they can never be replaced. My best friend and I met just after Navy Boot camp 56 years ago. The events of our lives have paralleled each other all along: Married our first wives within 2 months of eachother, divorced within 4 months, first born within 1 month, married 2nd time within 6 month, 1st wives die wirhin 11 months, both had a son commit suicide, and on and on.

We both shared a profound and life-long love for guns, fishing and motorcycles and pursued all three vigorously. We are brothers in every way but blood.

2. Ben on our last long ride in March of '96
