Default Best raccoon repellent.

Best raccoon repellent I've ever bought...

I picked up a Belgium made .22.SA about three weeks ago, and I haven't seen any raccoons around since....

I've spotted a muskrat coming into the yard to eat some of the mulberries that have dropped...But haven't had the heart to shoot it...Too easy of a shot.

I use to do Bonsai hobby and had squirrels jumping on them breaking branches. Some of these trees were older than me .

I don't know how many I shot over the years, but so many that when my neighbors cat would hear me pump the gun it would run over and sit under the tree waiting for a squirrel to fall.

I had a pump-up pellet handgun and started to just pump it 2-3 pumps so it would sting the tree rats and not kill them. Well the word spread among them and they started avoiding my yard like the plague. They would avoid it to the point that they would use the power wires if they wanted on the other side.

I could tell the cat was disappointed, but oh what fun .

Do I sense, perhaps, muskrat love!? The worst song in American history, by the way. And that is saying something considering the competition.

6518John,,,I'd have no qualms about shooting on sight every recording of that song by the Capt and Tennille I ever ran across...I'd even use my flashlight and shoot at them at night.

But the muskrat only 15 yards or so from the front door, nah, I'd be better off using a sling shot, or a bow and arrow, a little more sport to it.

I recently eliminated my coon problem with a $14.00 dog proof coon trap. With it and one bag of small marshmellows it took me about three weeks. After 8 or 9 captures I've not seen any evidence of one in about a month now.

That's great, UNTIL you live close by a fellow that raises them...Then they aren't so nice to have a round...Especially when I'm trying to take my nappy poo.

I guess I don't get it. Get up every 4AM and there's mama, papa and baby at the feeder. Why the hell would I shoot them. Don't bother me and when my dogs go out they run. Now that cat that keeps looking around the feeders, he/he will be history

paulh..A little trivia for where I live...It's against the law to live trap raccoons, and transplant them to other areas...Raccoons are some what territorial. Transplanting them into another's territory, then there is the fights against the outsiders. The outsiders usually end up being the losers.

SO....Being they are destructive little boogers........

I don't plan on replacing the roof and ceiling out in the shop again.

Tree rats, I'm not fond of them chewing on parts of the gazebo or the railings around the decking either.

Then there are the rabbits..Where have all the flowers gone, long time passing.....They're out too.

One more...Beaver...They're fun to see for the first time, until a person starts noticing all the saplings being chewed down, and the creek behind the house being dammed up.

The coons here are not cute little feeder visitors. They're destructive and a significant nuisance. They can hang out all they want in the surrounding forest and pasture and streams, but if they come up and want to mess around the house and barn they won't last long here.

I agree with WuzzFuzz, relocating coons is not a compassionate endeavor, it's actually harmful to the resident coons where you relocate them too.
