It's Too Hot To Be Doing This
I have two dead Hackberry trees that need to be taken down. I have put it off for various reasons and it finally became time to act. I dropped the one in the middle last week and will tackle the one on the right next.

Glad you didn't try to split it and use it for firewood. Back in my younger days, I cut down and split one. Hardest logs I ever split. Not that they were hard hard, but hard in the sense that they were very "stringy" and hard to get apart.

SOMEONE FORGOT THE 6 P's.
You mean trees grow? 3 too close together, diseased? Too close to the house? I had to lose many nice trees, so those remaining would get enough light/air & be healthy. Hindsight advice, cut down potential problems when they are smaller & BEFORE they turn into BIG problems.

Boy does that bring back memories! When I was 13 we bought the house two doors up. One day Pop charged me with moving all of our firewood to the new house. So I got my brother's wagon with the plan to use it to carry the wood. It turned out a lot of the pieces of wood were too big for me to lift into the wagon. Since we had a sledgehammer and a pair of wedges, I proceeded to split the big pieces of wood into manageable sizes. So that day not only did Pop get his wood moved but it was split too.
During one of his hospital stays during the last year of his life, I was visiting Pop and during the course of sitting around talking I told that story. Pop's response was priceless. He just said, "Builds character."

You're the man. Does your tree removal show go on the road? I'm sure we all could keep you booked. Tree cutting wienie roast and shooting for dessert.

Every time I asked somebody for a character reference they said, "Yep, he's a character."
