Don't eat KFC either.
The only chicken I eat comes from an old local joint, founded in 1946, that has skewered chicken still made over charcoal fire.

Never heard of Champs, but I see there’s one here over on the West side of town, correction actually there’s 2.
I must say, charcoal in Portugal seems to burn for a long time!

I'd never heard of Champs until three minutes ago. There are apparently three Champs outlets in North Carolina, all in small towns and all part of some other outlet like a Mini Mart.
There is one place in Charlotte called Price's Chicken Coop that's been in business since around 1950, perhaps earlier, and it sold chicken that working people could afford. Mom and dad would take me with them on Saturday to pick out the chicken for Sunday dinner. No economic downturn has ever seemed to affect Price's...it's still in the original building, and it's always packed. I've seen it described as a "fine dining restaurant". I don't know about that...it isn't someplace I'd want to sit down to a meal.
Only thing I know about KFC is they sell a lot of some sort of dead bird that people eat. I've seen no documentation stating that the stuff is really chicken. Ditto for Bojangles'. Last chicken I ate at Bojangles' was so...I don't know how to describe it...it was like eating ligaments or something. Just gristle. I trashed it, didn't even offer it to the dogs.

I'm not supposed to eat chicken I haven't fried myself, because of the salt content--I can make it with a salt substitute. But when I cheat, KFC is a last resort.
We have a little four- or five-store chain here called Indi's, and they do very decent spicy fried chicken at the one nearest me. I like some pepper heat with my chicken (and everything else, for that matter).
What we don't have enough of here, the last time I looked, is rotisserie-roasted or grilled chicken joints. I'm an old Tennessee fried-chicken-loving guy, but I'm equally fond of the good roasted or grilled stuff.

I made this chicken dish for dinner last night. The family can't get enough of it as it's truly a knock your socks off dish!

Don't know about "Champs", but Summer 2013 we went to Norfolk to visit a relative at the Veteran's Home there. Stopped at a "Speedy Mart" just down the street and had what they advertised as "Broaster Chicken". It was pretty decent, beat the heck out of KFC!!!!! As a matter of fact, most of the convenience store chicken I have had in my life beat the KFC product being sold now.

I just google mapped how to get to Portugal from Arkansas—Looks like i have a long drive and I better tow my 14 foot flat bottom duck-blind boat behind the truck too!
But that yard bird looks worth it! Does the place have a drive-thru?

I've never been crazy about whatever vermin they're hiding under that batter. If I'm out, I'll stop at Pollo Loco for pollo asada. Marinated, grilled and you can identify the parts.

I have to admit I like most fried chicken including KFC. Two stores in our area serve Champs and it is usually good. As is always the case, it helps if it is fresh out of the fryer as opposed to sitting under the heat lamps or oven for an hour. Try it. You may like it.

Not big on KFC either. Nobody makes fried chicken like my grandmother used to, out of the coop into the fryer. There used to be a place in New Mexico called Col. Sanchez Fried Chicken, not too bad, very spicy. Portugal chicken looks pretty darn good too though.

Is it time to go to the Church?
I do like Church’s Fried Chicken.
And here in Albuquerque, we got locally owned Golden Pride.
They get fresh never frozen chicken direct from the Midwest Chicken Zone.
A Cottonpicking Chicken Broker in Springfield, MO buys their chicken and ships it West.

I've been known to make a good roasted chicken in my day. Friends ask me how I prepare my chickens, my reply, " I tell 'em outright they're gonna die"!

In the 1950s, this place, the Green Turtle Restaurant in Valdosta, Georgia, served the best buttermilk crusted fried chicken you can imagine. Crispy light outside, juicy tender inside, yummmmm!

We have a Popeye's franchise here in the Columbus area. Not as good as we got in Baton Rouge. We had a clone called Sisters for a few years (a division of Wendy's) but they couldn't make any money!

Hi shouldazagged,I’m here in Louisville also. +1 on indi’s, the potato wedges are awesome. For rotisserie chicken try Caralis in stoneybrook shopping center. It’s Portuguese style -kind of spicy. I watch sodium also and I’m sure this is not good for us, so I only get it on rare occasion, but I really like it

I was used of getting 16 pcs of parts in pairs.........not 75% dark meat.
"Henny Penny" from our local stores is ok, for just $5.99.

Is this the place where I insert a word about my favorite fried food?? Cat, "The other White Meat"!!!!
I had a friend once (Yes, I know it is hard to believe that I had a friend) that liked KFC. He called it: Kentucky Fried Rat.
As I have now offended a large portion of the board. I will retire to the bunker and await the incoming!
