I've driving for over 50 years, all this time I got 2 speeding tickets, first one was more than 40 years ago, while I was still in college, going a bit too fast thru a small town late night with some school friends after the weekend, seeing that we are just a bunch of college students, the LEO was good enough to "write down" my ticket so I only have to pay a smaller fine.

The next one was about 10 years ago, on a Sunday morning during the Christmas holiday, I was driving over a bridge, at the bottom is a school zone, with a speed limit of 20 mph, I was stop there, LEO said I was speeding thru a school zone at 30 mph, I protested school is out, its Sunday and during holiday season, but he won't budge, I was speeding in a school zone, period. Oh well, I guess the law is the law, shut up and pay the fine.

I think most of us do drive a bit over the speed limit some of the time, so how many speeding tickets you got? are they justified? do you think the traffic cop was too rigid? or did you go to court to fight it. I'm sure anyone been driving for some time would have stories to tell.

However, please don't be bashing LEO here, they have a hard enough job to keep the roads safe for all user, with all the street racers; DUI; driving while texting and yepping on the cell phone go on.

My last speeding ticket was over 35 years ago.

Since then I learned to swim with the rest of the salmon.

Only time I ever got pulled over in more than 60 years of driving was for a burned out tail light. That includes driving a semi-tanker for 32 years. Hope that stands for another 60 years...knock on wood.

But I have gotten a few tickets in places where I didn’t expec seet to a State Trooper or anybody.
And I do like to rove the Boonies!
The roads there are often two lane, but often empty, straight and usually dry.
I may increase velocity in these zones.
A few ago When I almost hit that Elk, thats what I was doing.
The only thing there was me until he jumped onto the road!
In my younger days, I have come close to hitting cows.
But that was at night!

I got one. I think the trooper just decided he didn't like me, or was having a bad day. He wrote me for 73 in a 65, claimed I was going much faster. Now, this was in heavy traffic--everybody was doing 73 or we'd have been bouncing into each other.

Went to plead it down, and I believe the county attorney's exact words were, "Who doesn't do 73?". Minor ticket, went to traffic school.

Later found out that particular guy was just a known jerk. He's definitely a statistical outlier, as every other state trooper I've dealt with has been quite pleasant, even the guy that responded to an armed robbery at a Rite Aide I was in. Just strolled in, Glock in his hand but down behind his leg so as not to frighten us civilians, asked what had happened, told me not to leave, and proceeded on.

I managed to make it all the way to age 40 before getting my first ticket. Up to that point I had never ever gotten pulled over, or gotten a ticket or been in an accident. I think the cop could've cut me a break for my good record. Over the years I've had several people tell me of cops letting them off with a warning after seeing their long, spotless records. No such luck with me. TBH I think they were on a revenue collecting drive on the day I was stopped.

In my younger years I collected speeding tickets much like normal people collected "Green Stamps." the last ticket I got was for speeding when passing another car, 70/55. That was in 1996. About half of my annual driving miles is interstate. I generally keep my speed no more that 5 - 7 mph over the posted limit. What surprises me is the number of cars who go FLYING past me. Hell at my age I got no reason to hurry.

I think his cousin gave the OP his Sunday school zone ticket. His other cousin lives here in Vegas and was issuing tickets in a school zone where all the signs had been flattened and covered by a construction company.

My only speeding ticket was acquired in England. As a broke 19-year old I was reluctant to use the brakes like any good hypermiler especially when I felt that the car would slow down enough with the throttle released. Got nailed for 41 in a 30 on a gentle downslope into a village with fields either side where throttle only retardation was considered insufficient by the local constabulary. Whatever.

I sheepishly admit than when I was 20 and drove a 240Z I got 5 tickets in two years - enough that I got a letter from the state, signed by the governor herself, saying one more and we pull your license. Which upon reflection floors me as now you can get 4 DUI's in this state before they'll do that.

After that went 30 years before another - on a road trip and didn't see the sign changing the limit from 60 to 50 and was written up for 64 in a 50. Four years after that went through a 25 zone at 30; motorcycle officer just pointed at me to go around the corner and there a half dozen others all being written up by other officers. While they were citing me another 4 or 5 cars turned the same corner and were also cited (I presume). They were handing out tickets like food samples at Costco. I'm guessing the neighborhood complained about people zooming past and they did an emphasis patrol.

So that makes 7. More than I'd like, but there are no reckless or under the influence ones in there. Just heavy foot.

Know what you mean. I'll go 5 over to keep up with traffic. After that it's speeding and I stay right and refuse to partake.

I got my only speeding ticket in 1970.

One in 1982--running 90 on a motorcycle 400 miles from home but I saw him across the curve and shaved it to 76 before he got me locked up on radar. Thank heaven for angle error.

I cajoled the Clerk of Court, the Trooper and the Judge into hearing it the next day. Judge, upon my plea of guilty, fined me a little and took my privilege for 30 days. I asked for 24 hours to get home and he stayed his judgement 24 hours.

Walked out of the courthouse in the rain and it rained all 400 of those long miles home.

I was between jobs and moved to my hunting camp for the duration. My, at that time, girlfriend brought me "necessities" every three days or so.

Nice vacation!

The only lingering effects were my truck insurance went up, my motorcycle insurance went down, I sold the bike and slowed down.

My last ticket was 10 years ago. It wasn't for speed it was a rolling stop/not coming to a complete stop - I was rolling backwards - (clutch tricks) With a faded/flat black car, concealed headlights, no front plate it's, well, shall we, say, "stealthy" to radar/laser and gives me a bit of time and space to react. Haven't had a speeding ticket in that car. I'm not saying, I'm just saying...

To answer the question I've had about ten speeding tickets all of my driving.

After I first started driving, about 25+ years ago, in a five or six month period, I had 7 or 8 tickets pending, all at the same time. All of them were 10 miles over. I took all of them to court and beat them and I kept my clean driving record - that's a story in and of itself.

When working for car dealerships, I've had a tickets for equipment/no plate/insurance violations. The most I was got seven equipment tickets in one whack - It seems the cop got a bad deal from the dealership and was nailing everybody, who wasn't a customer, from that dealership. IIRC, My tickets were improper display of a plate (back window), broken windshield, modified exhaust, broken taillight, bald tires, I don't remember the others... That was on a car that was taken on trade and I was driving to a wholesaler's lot a block away. I was one of 10 people that I remember who got tickets.

To make a long story short, I had to go to court, it was a mandatory appearance for the improper plate display, and all the tickets were dismissed because the lawyer for the dealership managed to prove that the dealership employees were being harassed by a disgruntled customer who happened to be a cop.

I'm guessing that I've had about half a dozen speeding tickets over the 47 years I have been driving. I have also been given breaks at least that many times in the same period. My very 1st ticket was given to me by "Trooper Layton of the Pennsylvania state police" as he politely introduced himself. Must have made quite an impression on my 17 year old mind as it's stuck with me all these years. Having been pulled over at least a dozen or more times never once had a police officer be rude or indignant with me. I did have one who was a former high school classmate tell me that he was giving me a break even though I didn't deserve one. He was right, but I took the break, thank you.

Didn't see that too much in England. First DUI gets you a year of walking. Those that get to three or more earn themselves driving bans of up to ten years IIRC. Driving while disqualified will get you major fines unless you are a multiple DUI offender, in which case you're away to the Big House.

I'm rarely in a hurry. So, zero so far.

I got one in 1988. Been driving for 38 years and that's my one and only. I did get a second one in 1998 but that one was bogus and got dropped.

I've had 2 in my 60 years which is pretty amassing.

I use to street race a 69 SS 396 Chevelle in my younger days. When I'm on the expressway I get in the fast lane and go with the flow up to 95 MPH.

Couple years ago I was a little north of Macon GA. on 75 after being in a traffic jam, thought I'd make up for lost time and was rolling at 90 when I looked up and saw a trooper on a overpass. As soon as I saw him her hit the blues, and was heading down the ramp. Got over in the slow lane to pull over, and he got the car behind me.

I've heard they will pull over a coupe before a 4 door. I've only owned one 4 door car for a short time in my life.

i've had a few in my 69 years. not too many though. one was 90 in a 30 on my motorcycle in lawrence, kansas. thought the cop was gonna shoot me he was so mad. Then there is my wife....wow....green means go....yellow means go faster and red means floor it....yield means get the hell out of my way.....stop means "NOT!"......she got one last week for running a red light...she is 66 years old...old habits die hard...she goes to traffic school starting next week....supper was good though....oh and gas gauge "E" means "ENOUGH"

I have never had a speeding ticket, and I haven't the slightest idea why I haven't. When I drove from San Jose to Los Angeles down Interstate 5, there were times I was doing 95.

I have a spoof decision tree on that subject.

Is it a plain 4-door? Don't bother stopping it unless the driver is cute.

Is it a RED 4-door? Cut 'em loose after reading them the riot act.

Is it a BMW? (color immaterial) Nail his sorry butt for all to see at the side of road with a full on felony stop with canine backup.

Is it a RED Firebird/Camaro/Mustang? Place ticket under windshield wiper while the owner is in the grocery store because you KNOW they will be speeding.

While it did not used to be this strict, in Japan, nowadays, any detectable trace of alcohol in your system gets your DL lifted for life.

Been stopped a couple of times for low grade — nothing too dramatic — speeding, but have never been ticketed for it.

I don't remember the exact details, but a few years ago there was a big kerfuffle over a woman who killed someone in an accident and was found to have been more than double over the limit. Something like .21 when .08 gets you cited. The news article came up with that she'd had 4 previous DUI's but still had a valid license after whatever probation/community service wrist slaps she'd received for them. Big outcry of "how could this happen?" along with weeping, wailing, and gnashing of teeth. "We have to DO something!" So now they'll pull it after 4 DUI's. Which is three too many.

I was pulled over for going around a corner slightly sideways in my Mustang in 1982 or 83 in Spokane. Cop let me off with a verbal warning.

I got one for 63 in a 55 between Spokane and Pullman, Washington in 1983 or 84.

In 1988, my wife (fiance at the time) and I got matching tickets in rural Mississippi on the way out to her parent's house for our wedding. I was following her since I didn't know the way and we were doing 72 in a 55 zone. The cop came over a hill heading toward us, got us on radar, turned around, pulled us both over, and gave us both tickets. He could even see her wedding dress in the rear window of her car! We went back to the court house two days later to pick up our marriage license and told the clerk about our tickets. He asked, "Did you tell him you were getting married?" "And he still wrote you up?"

I got two when I was 24 -25 while driving a 1979 or '80 Toyota Corolla SR-5. The first was 45 in a 30 in the outskirts of Pearland, TX. The second was for 72 (I thank the DPS Officer for that... 90) during the national 55 speed limit era. That was between Lott and Temple, TX on a boots and barbecue run.

I then bought a fast car, a Datson 280 ZX, and a Romulan Cloaking Device. I swore I'd never get another ticket.

No tickets or accidents in the 37 or so years since.

I received four speeding tickets in 42 years . First was when I was 16 ,flipped the air cleaner lid on my dad's Impala it sounded like a big 4 barrel. MPD officer said heard me coming over the hill , maybe a few miles over 40 mph zone. A few years later out with my buddies at 2 A.M , county had radar/ sobriety check point with a passed out drunk in a van . I said yes sir, no sir received a ticket and told to get my butt home and I did. The last two was in a small Louisiana town 1990 and on the bypass around Martin TN 2002 THP

Ive been driving for 46 years and only received 2 speeding tickets.
One I beat in court since it was a miscarriage of Justice and with the case presented by my Attorney and myself, the Judge took the officer involved in the back room and ripped him a new one!
The second one I deserved, was bringing my daughter home from college for Christmas break. I just had gotten done working the midnight shift and was making a 4hr run. State Trooper pulled me over for doing 80 in a 65 zone on the interstate. No beating a State Cop with radar but he did cut me a break.
Those were the only two tickets I’ve ever received!

One speeding ticket - driving back to Minot AFB after spending Labor Day weekend in Minnesota (1983)... 66 is a 55 ($11 "energy conservation" ticket)

I had a bad habit of accelerating slightly into graded curves and was stopped on 2 lane US 27 in Palm Beach Co. Those were the days the cops didn't care if you stood by outside of the vehicle and since it was dusk the mosquitos were in full force. They left me alone but were tearing the trooper a new one as he wrote the citation. He asked if I minded waiting in the patrol car and I politely declined.
Finally waved the whole thing off and gave me a verbal.

Never got one, but I sure wrote a bunch of them.

I've had two, the first was about 45-50 years ago, the second was coming out of Snyder, Texas 20 years ago. Had just bought a Dodge Truck with a 360 in it and some screaming pipes. The Texas state patrolman that pulled me over said I was doing 90 in a 60, I told him, I was in a hurry to get out of Snyder! He laughed, but still wrote the ticket.

Not nearly as many as I deserve.

I seem to avg 1 every 2-3 years. Just going with the flow of traffic is usually about 10 mph over the limit. Normally it's for 15 over the limit. I guess I don't pay strict enough attention. Maxed out on taking the driver safety class. They always seem to happen when I'm trying to be good. The last one was for 19 in a 15 in a school zone at the beginning of the school year. Multiple cop cars in an OBVIOUS spot, coasting along (aware they were there) with nobody in front or behind me, some young punk on "crutches" sprints out into the road making me lock up the brakes. The cops hear the tires screech, heads turn on a swivel and yours truly gets a ticket. The little ******* smiles my way & flips me off. Little did he know I invented that bit. School just opened here Monday, be careful out there. Driving/parking on the local golf course to do some night putting with my HS girlfriend, never got caught. Motorcycle, crazy speeds & evaded cops 3 X's, also no tickets. I can't believe it but "safe driver" is stamped on my DL.

Thankfully it's been 20 or so yrs since I received a speeding ticket. Did get pulled in Texas last year but just received a warning.

However the summer before my freshman yr at college I qualified for the Fulton County, Arkansas special - 4 tickets in 30 days and get a suspended license for 30 days. Also got a ticket for driving while said license was suspended. Slow learner I guess.

And several...ahem, maybe more than several after that. Those sneaky Leos were always in the wrong place at the right time!

I got more speeding tickets than I can remember back when I was in my late teens to early twenties. One of them was for passing an unmarked State Trooper that was doing 80mph. He said he didn't get me on radar but that I "passed him like he was standing still". He wrote the ticket for 75mph because he said he could prove that in court.

My first car was a red 68 Firebird, 350 4 speed fat tires and a extremely loud exhaust. Never got pulled over one time.

Years later I had a red 87 Z28 Camaro, never got pulled over in it.

My first speeding ticket was in a black Mustang, and the second was in a green Mustang.

But the last one was so long ago I don't remember it.

Let's see, one, a warning ticket, for a loose headlight fuse in an old VW, about 1970 or so, stopped another time (no ticket just a verbal "be careful") because of the loose steering in the 1950 Ford truck I was driving home from work.

A speeding warning ticket in Texas about 1996. I don't think there were any more. Now I'm too old to speed, I set the cruise a lot to prevent it.

No speeding tickets so far. Maybe driving a cop car helps. I use the cruise control a lot to keep from speeding because the V-8 engines in my Batmobiles can get up to illegal speeds before you would realize it.

The town I live in had a reputation, at least in the past, of being a notorious speed trap. That keeps me on my toes, particularly on that last hill coming down into the town.

In 1978, I was 31 years old. It was a fine spring morning the snow was gone the road was dry and the truck was running rough from driving 25 miles per hour on base. I went out the back gate of the Air Base onto a 2 lane hi-way that does not get a lot of traffic, I placed the accelerator to the floor worked the gears and soon was going pretty fast. The last time I looked a the speedo I was going 110ish I saw the state police and let off on the gas a pulled over and waited for the officer; the officer asked me if I knew how fast I was going? I told him pretty fast. He told me his radar shower a speed of 121 miles per hr and I was slowing down. He ran my license and came back and said because of my driving record and being in the service he would write me up for doing 70 mph in a 55 zone. I could have been hauled off to jail as he could got me for reckless endangerment a felony. I saw the judge on Monday paid my ticket and informed my first sergeant and took my *** chewing and lost 2 points off of my on base driving record. not another speeding ticket since.

Three in 42 years of driving. First when I was 16 - 44 in a 30. I was coasting down at the time after doing an s-curve at about 65. Second was about 30 years ago. I was getting into Midland after work from Odessa, and I was slowing down. I had been doing 90-95, but I slowed down to 68 in a 55 when he shot me. Later I learned to drive like a human being. I did get one about 10 years ago. Merging onto a freeway where technically the limit is 55, but the 75 sign is within sight. He wrote me for 62 and claimed I was doing that on the frontage road where the speed limit is 45. Not so. I was on the ramp, but I paid the ticket without contesting it since I was technically over the 55 limit.

Nothing since then except a warning from a stickler of a DPS trooper for doing "about 2 mph over the limit."

In the last 20 years I've been cited for speeding 3 times.

The most recent was about 3 years ago by a cop going the other way with mobilie radar in his car. I got that one deferred (paid some administrative fees and was on "probation" for a year).

Before that it was about 10 years ago - clocked by a patrol aircraft - that one got dismissed due to inconsistencies.

The one before that was about 15 years ago by a cop hiding in the bushes - and I got it deferred by attending traffic school and being on probation for a year.

So I have none on my record.

BUT, when I was young I was hell on wheels. I actually got 6 speeding tickets just in my senior year of high school alone - and my record didn't get much better than that for the next 10 years. After I got married and hit my late 20's I calmed down and my driving record got much better - and it has stayed that way.

Since I have never really done anything on a DUI case in WA except for short term coverage in District Court when we were short handed, and my last DUI trial was in 1987 in another state, I do not have a good grasp of the license consequences for DUI. I do know that even the first will take your DL for a while, with rather detailed reinstatement requirements, and interlocks are ofter required. There is a very complicated grid on a sentencing document attachment on the WA courts' website in the forms section. I have not even looked at that for 5 years, and it has probably changed twice in that period.

Tickets? I used to collect them with vigor when I was a lot younger. It's been at least ten years since my last one, and that was the first in quite a while.

My only speeding ticket was in 1990, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. I was doing 38 in a 20 mph school zone. I can't remember the amount of the ticket.

In the last 10 years, I've been pulled over for speeding on four separate occasions, the last time was about three years ago in McCall, Idaho. I only received a verbal warning in each of these. My goal is to be the most pleasant stop an officer makes on that particular day, and that, along with my general lack of citations, seems to work out just fine.

Had a few over the years. Latest is running a bit late to work (2-3 minutes) a week ago. Picked up a county whom followed me into parking lot of work. She asked me if I was going to work? I have my side shield safety glasses with my employee id badge draped on my neck. I responded, "I am at work". She got me at 3 mph over the limit. Wow..... Doing 58 in a 55 and everyone is passing me rapidly. It is a very dangerous road. Ran my registration and it came back clean. Gave me a warning. I have not argued with law enforcement as a whole too many times, but I have lost.

Probably haven't gotten a speeding ticket in at least 35 years. I rarely speed but even on the rare occasion that I do, I'm not the fastest car on the highway so there are bigger fish to fry as far as the Troopers are concerned. You never want to pass everybody else - that makes you stand out.

The last ticket I got was a red light camera ticket - about 4 years ago and I deserved it. Just payed it, $85 bucks!
