Your Favorite C&W Song
Just listening to some music and was thinking about my favorite C&W song . Hands down , mine is " You're the reason God made Oklahoma " followed closely by "Amarillo by Morning ." Never been to Oklahoma , but sure do like that song .

"You never even called me by my name" written by Steve Goodman. I prefer the David Allen Coe version with Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings and Charlie Pride adding "cameos".

David Allen Coe - was in the news last week, he went to court.
He always seemed like a V-12 race engine with several bad spark plugs!
The other day happened to see David Ball sing that great Roger Miller Song-
Invitation to the Blues.

I'm far from a C&W aficionado but there are some songs in that I really like.
Marty Robbins, ''Mr Shorty'' is high on the list
Most any older version of Ghost Riders in the sky. I prefer Vaughn Monroe and Johnny Cash versions the best.

E-9 , and I can remember the old guys coming to the NCO club in Wiesbaden in the late 1960's . Crazyphil , if you're old , so am I . I remember all those , especially " Make The World Go Away ." Thanks for bringing back some really good memories !

I must be an "old timer" too. These all sound familiar to me. In my misspent youth I was an oldies disk jockey and I played a lot of the crossover country songs that made it to the rock and roll playlists. Thanks to karaoke I can now sing them.
My probable favorite is "Six Days on the Road" by Dave Dudley, later covered by Sawyer Brown and The Flying Burrito Brothers. It was also performed on stage by me at a talent show for the benefit of the Apollo Civic Theatre in Martinsburg, WV. I won the "Light Up the State" Award for getting the most audience response.

I have heard that some say that there are only 7 country songs. True or not I love most of them (I'm talkin' about REAL country not all this new hat country, hip-hop, punk gospel, etc).
No way to list my favorites, they would numbers in the hundreds. Much easier and less band width to list some of my favorite artists, in no particular order:
George Jones
Merle Haggard
Waylon Kennings
Alan Jackson
Vince Gil
Patty loveless
Barbara Mandrell
Patsy Cline
Marty Robbins
Shelly West
George Strait
Dolly Parton
Loretta Lynn
I could go on all day here but you get the idea...........Traditional.

He made a ton of money, but was very frugal. He always bought
used cars instead of new ones. He even mowed his own lawn.
One day a lady pulled up in front of his house while he was
mowing and called him over to the car. She said she just lived
up the street a ways and wondered what he would charge to do
her yard. He thought for a second and then said well, the lady
who lives here lets me sleep with her. The lady drove away in

I like a lot of C&W songs.....
All of the classics and a wide variety. But there is one song that hit's home to me.
"What Are Those Things With Big Black Wings" Charlie Louvin
I think it appeals to my inane/arcane sense of humor.
Ok, If I gotta be serious.
5 or 6 Hank Williams songs
She's Got You
El Paso
16 Tons
Foggy Mountain Breakdown
Rocky Top
(My Bluegrass requirements)
Long Black Veil
Big Bad John
He'll Have to Go
Ring of Fire
I Walk the Line
Coat of Many Colors
I Will Always Love You
Blue Eyes Cryin In the Rain
Angel Too Close to the Ground
Honorable Mention: The Battle Of New Orleans
Sunday Mornin Comin Down
Ruby Don't Take Your Love To Town
Some singer I don't care for:
Buck Owens (He played a great guitar, but you never heard it)
Red Sovine
CW McCall Convoy

Of course my personal theme song by Waylon Jennings:
"I've Always Been Crazy, But It's Kept Me From Going Insane."

I'm not even sure where to start!
I guess "Folsom Prison Blues" would be my all-time favorite.
After that...
Hank Snow - Ninety Miles an Hour
Roger Miller - In the Summertime
Marty Robbins - Big Iron
Willie and Merle - The Ballad of Poncho and Lefty
Johnny Horton - Sink the Bismark
Jeanie C. Riley - Harper Valley PTA
Johnny Paycheck - Colorado Kool-Aid
Flatt and Scruggs - Foggy Mountain Breakdown
And some newer favorites:
Junior Brown - My Wife Thinks You're Dead
Lucinda Williams - Can't Let Go
Nickel Creek - The Smoothie Song
Little Big Town - Boondocks
I could continue, but I won't!

Cowboy Rides Away. Strait's version is good, Brooks & Dunn's cover is great.
Country Honk. The Rolling Stones. If it doesn't get your blood pumping, better go breathe on the mirror.
