Did it all in 2000, while still on active duty, stationed in LaMaddalena, Italy. I STILL say the two weeks we spent in Germany and Austria (and France...) were the BEST time we spent of the whole three years in Europe.

For all those considering a visit to Munich's Oktoberfest, it's in September!!

If you miss the big fest, Munich's big beer halls are a hoot year round.

Oktoberfest ends the first weekend in October so you need to back up the calendar 2 weeks for the opening day

Ah, the memories. I was stationed in Munich/Augsburg from Jan 61 to June 63 and got to attend 2 October Fests. We spent a lot of time there and had a blast.

America's largest Oktoberfest starts today. I can't make it to Germany but we are going to head down on Sunday for a bit.

Every year, 500k people make the pilgrimage to stress-test bladders and kidneys. It is truly a spectacle.

No matter where you are this weekend, lift one to me as I will assuredly be lifting on to you all.

Boden bis!

Cincinnati has a fantastic Oktoberfest! My wife and I lived just up the river in the late '70s, and always loved the food, beer and entertainment.

Have a great time!

Been there twice...so many people, so much bier. You can Buy Spaten Oktoberfest Bier here, and it’s pretty decent.

You can also buy this here:

Went to Oktoberfest in 1976. A truly unique experience. Huge pavilions for the breweries. Roasted chicken everywhere. You buy a chicken, go into one of the pavilions, sit down and order a liter of beer and have at it.

And then there is the annual Wurstfest in New Braunfels TX, just north of San Antonio, if you can't make it to Munich.

I made it once. That will probably do it for me. As good as it is - not much there is in my diet anymore.
