You worry about that nonsense too much. If my wife made that much dough, I'd be fine with it. So long as:-

1) She can support my gun habit
2) She can support my car habit.
3) She can support her shoe habit.

...all would be sweetness and light. Think how much time I could spend at a decent range? Heck, I might even get better at shooting.

Absolutely! For the first 5 years of our marriage my wife made more than me - while I went to school and got my degree. For the next 5 years we were on par. For the next 20 she worked part time and spent more time at home with the kids and I was the primary breadwinner/wage slave. I semi-retired earlier this year (working part time now) and she's back to full time. She'll make more than me this year and probably every year until she retires. Does it bother me? Not one bit. Everything we have is ours - none of this yours vs. mine stuff - and as long as we're able to pay the bills it's all good.

My wife makes a lot more than me (again), but that is in large part because her employer did a study and found out just how far off they were on pay compared to any place even remotely similar (about 40% low). She is also a star in her field, producing far more academic work than the rest of her (old) department combined (she just got her appointment moved to a new department). My office has been tilting at our pay scale for years, and we are finally starting to get some traction, but I'm roughly 45% below comparable market wages. I enjoy what I do and where I live (we have two houses) and we are more concerned with paying off the houses to get rid of them at retirement than with other issues.

Pensions: Most of the ones with which I am familiar in government service require either a set age, or age plus service years coming up to some number. The ones that have a service requirement and then pay out immediately are usually in occupations in which the post employment actuarial realties involve folks who do not live all that long after retirement for various reasons. In my plan, one can go after 60 years old if they have more than 30 years of service, or you have to go to 65 unless you want to take a huge cut for every month before 65. Because of when I moved here and started in PERS, I have to go to 65. That's mainly a problem because Washington is going down the toilet thanks to the Seattleites.

I fired myself in 2012. The young engineers that took over felt sorry for the "old man" and gave me a place to hang out; an old grey steel desk, reading lamp, and frayed swivel chair in a corner of the mail room.
