Off My Blood Pressure Meds for the First Time in 15 years
I had posted before that I started the Keto diet back on August 13th, with a goal of loosing enough weight to hopefully escape my dependence on BP meds.
The diet, along with regular, if not strenuous, exercise has had me go from about 204 lbs in August to 171 lbs this morning. Last Monday, my Dr took me off of my BP meds, after my BP plummeted down to a low of 83/53 about 3 weeks into my diet. He first cut my dose of meds to about 40%, and after a few weeks of that, I'm off of them altogether, and after a week of no meds I'm holding pretty steady at about 110/70.
So, as of right now it's 'Mission Accomplished' for my first goal, next will be to keep going until I'm down to about 160-165, when I'll have to come up with a maintenance program that will include a slightly less restrictive diet along with a bit more exercise. Keto ain't a forever thing, but so far it has really helped me get very near my ultimate goal.
I have to admit that one of our members here, Snubbyfan, has been one of my inspirations. Thanks Snubby!

I was feeling tired all the time told my doc I ALSO LOST 30 lb he said my BP was low. cut my meds in half took my BP at home and recorded them for two weeks , normal readings then he said to stop taking BP meds all together still feel normal and feel good and not as tired. I am very happy about that. Telling the wife I feel normal she might disagree a little but that's a different story

500SNW,
Initially, I was on 80mg of Telmisartan. I did that one for a few years, then the Dr. (my present Dr's father) added a 'water' component, 12.5 MG of Hydrocholrothiazide, to the mix.
My present doctor, after I had lost about 15 lbs, and went through a huge drop in my BP, dropped me down to 40 mg of the Telisartan only, and then last week took me off of that one entirely. Now I seem to be doing well on nothing, but we'll see how it goes.

Very happy for you! I started a lifestyle change, instead of the word diet, and the results have been amazing. BP is down, weight is down, overall feel better. I only wish I would have done this earlier and realized that even if you put on 5 lbs per year, multiplied by 10 years...that's 50 lbs! Sitting behind a desk and not paying attention is what got me and I suspect a lot of people. By merely paying attention to it, you (figuratively) are starting the right track.

Ok, I was just curious because I myself was on 50mg of Metoprolol ER for a couple years...and I had to quit when the stuff started failing me. I didn't taper my dose, I just skipped doses and took occasional half doses. It wasn't fun, but was nothing like the withdrawals people have on other drugs.

Just don't make the mistake of watching the Nightly News - you'll be back on the BP Meds the next day!

What problems did you have? I'm taking 25mg & he told me I'd probably take it for the rest of my life.

I have VPB for over 30 years. They have me on 5 mg of Lisinopril right now.
Seeing a cardiologist on Thursday.
If he says I have to give up drinking, coffee, fat food and sex, well, what do I have to live for! LOL!
