Cleaning up the basement today...
...and found this. I haven't seen a metal Hoppe's oil container in a LONG time ( long for me at any rate ). Can anyone give me an idea as to how old it actually is ?

I'd GUESS mid 1970's by the font used and the overall package design. JMHO of course and I could be wrong.

From what I could find, the first UPC code was scanned in 1974. Became more used since then obviously.

I've got a can just like it. I got mine in 1972, it came with the 22 rifle I got for Christmas.

Nope, no UPC code. Can't see any evidence that there ever was one, and certainly not printed on the can..

I’ve got one from 1968. Was in a gun cleaning kit that Dad got from the bank. Now they just give out suckers and dog treats!

I believe it's from the early '60's.

Nice can. I am guessing about 1970ish.
Certainly after July 1, 1963 when ZIP codes were implemented.

I'm going to further refine my estimate to 1976-1978 period.

Could be sold for big bucks on eBay. These retro cans can collect massive payouts from auctions. Everyone is all about nostalgia these days.
